One thing I don’t understand about all of this, is this… FIFA oppose Government’s getting involved in Football, indeed they’ve suspended some countries previously for just that. On the BBC Sport website just now, FIFA are watching events in Spain very closely, as their Government are getting involved at RFEF until a successor is elected for Rubiales: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cedxjpw28vloSo how are our Government allowed to be involved in the process of sorting a regulator? Surely that’s ‘interference’ by a Government, which is against FIFA rules?! All very strange… Ha Exactly, I was talking to someone about the very thing today - government interference is frowned upon so I don’t understand either.

Really interests me. You can’t have one rule for one, then another for someone else!

Really interests me. You can’t have one rule for one, then another for someone else! Do you know how many thousands of hours are spent each year discussing self regulation vs government regulation in professions? Giving the rights of sanction and fines to committees of accountants, lawyers etc ie over their own members. Sports clubs are special organisations in many ways, that's why countries have legislation on community assets for example. How many industries can sell an employee? If you want to change jobs you hand in your notice and go, there are limits on restriction of trade and movement but not like in football . Chuck into the mix that a winning/losing team can have a big influence on the success of a polician. Football is very special because it is not rational. Who buys a business knowing it will lose lose a minimum of half a million pounds a year, forever? And the beneficiaries are 25 year olds earning 100k a year?

A few brown envelopes will keep FIFA at bay.
