Went out with a mate the other week for some drinks, started in The Joiners which is a shadow of what it was, the regular faces were good to see but the atmosphere is not as was and no juke box anymore and no draught ales so my pal was very unimpressed, think the current owner told my pal something along the lines of that it wasn't working so it will probably shut again soon which is sad.
The Reiver however had a fair few people in there around five bells and they had all the big screens on, seemed to be doing food too which was good to see as another option for somewhere to go for a meal, again my mate moaned about the ale however and lack of choices so I drove to The Spinners Arms at Cummersdale.
The Spinners is what it is, times I've been in recently there was only us in there but at last my pal stopped moaning about the beer as they brew their own which is pretty decent from memory and he rated the selection that they had on.
As we drove past The Scot at Morton it looked like they were about to pull it down but seen on Facebook today that I think that they have done it all up and The Coach And Horses too is due to re-open which is great as the last few times I drove past it looked terrible with weeds growing everywhere and it was such a shame to see a normally respectable building looking so unkempt.
Times and tastes are changing we were discussing, lads and lasses back in the eighties and nineties on a Saturday evening going to the pub for a few then onto a nightclub to try and 'pull' is fizzling out as younger people are more content to just stay in with a few drinks and see who they can pull on a dating app on their phone, where it used to be 'I seen her through beer goggles' is now 'I was fooled by her phone filter'.
