Tough game today chaps, Bolton looked a team geared up for the Championship, we`ve met a few this season, Peterborough, Oxford, Blackpool, Wigan etc. Today Bolton were better all over the pitch, quicker in thought, pace and execution, they were comfortable on the ball playing well out of defence and giving our defence an exciting afternoon whenever they approached our penalty area, League 1 has certainly been an eye opener this season. After a first half which Bolton dominated we made a better fist of the second half, thanks to contributions from Jack Diamond and Jordan Gibson who both injected some skill and urgency into the mix. Luke Armstrong battled manfully throughout the 90 mins, but hopeful hoofballs from the defence are never going to provide him with the chances which we know he has the capability to convert. I don`t think for a moment Simmo coaches the defenders to launch the ball forward, and to be fair there are times when an accurate long ball out of defence to a quick tricky forward will pay dividends, but to me, some of what went on this afternoon was hot potato ball, can`t knock the effort, but not good enough. For me MotM was Jordan Gibson, with special mention to Jack Diamond, Luke Armstrong and Harrison Neal who were contenders, thought Mox had a decent game despite some verbals from some supporters. In short what we need is a bit more composure in defence and a better service to Armstrong. I`m usually upbeat but I did feel a bit deflated at the end of the match today, we still look some way off being a phoenix rising from the League 1 relegation zone, still we live in hope. I honestly do think it’s our plan for quite a few aspects of the game. Virtually every one of Simpson’s team’s kick-offs is the same, a long hanging ball out to the left wing, almost rugby union style. Regardless of who’s in goal our goalkeeping distribution nearly always involves a kick out to the left wing - Holy and now Lewis have been criticised for kicking the ball straight out but they’re blatantly being asked to aim for the left wing so it’s stands to reason that quite a few will end up in touch. Not sure what the ploy is persevered with for as it’s never been effective, same with the kick-offs, would love to know the thinking behind them. Simpson’s never been a football purist, he likes effective football as opposed to pretty football. The higher up the leagues you go the less effective that style becomes. The kick off does my head in, I think we have successfully reclaimed the ball once this season. For such a skillful winger he doesn't seem to like playing pretty football as you put it, tbh he would have no wingers at all if he had good wingbacks. Though I don't think Lewis has been bad with his kicking at all and was shocked to read in his thread it was something else to beat him with.

Dempsey would be labelled 'shit' after 3 months if he came back. Not sure if it's the same at other clubs but players from our local area seem to get more grief than others.

I've had a few beers and cant be bothered reading 15 pages on this match thread but here's my take on today. Bolton deserved to win, but it was never a 4-1 game. We're a L2 team in L1. A certainty we're down. We will come back stronger. Gibson isn't brilliant, but we're more dangerous with him in the team. The new signings have improved us. Kyle Dempsey is a good L1 player, but is a dickhead in real life. The best defender we ever had was Jackie Ashurst. Whatever league we're in next season, true supporters will be there. F**k the Tory Party. Good night.

Iredale was woeful when he played for us how does he get into the Bolton team? Because he developed when he went to Cambridge then pushed on when joined Bolton…

Got to say I think Lavelle is a bit of a problem at the back. Struggles with the basics at times. Numerous times yesterday he shanked his clearances or sent them straight up in the air.

Never been the same since the Reading torture, a slow first 2 games then great until Reading and now it is mistake central, such a drop off.

I quite like Huntingdon but he’s played 13 games and we’ve managed 7 points from the 39 available.
Obviously it’s not all down to him but I might be worth giving the young lad from Palace a game!

Anybody heard a rumour Simmo offered his resignation after the game.

Hopefully he`ll step down today/tomorrow morning, but he should have gone after the Cheltenham game.
No doubt, we wouldn`t be where we are now, regarding optimism moving forward, without him, and he can rightfully say he was the catalyst for saving the club, but I think he`s too proud, to let go, and wants to try and dig us out of the hole, we currently find ourselves in.
But realistically, I cannot see that happening, and so many want to keep him on, and have him in charge, should the inevitable happen, and we`re back in L2 next year. No room for sentiment in the modern game.
But should we come back up at the first attempt, 18 months from now, I imagine we`ll be in the same boat.
The game has moved on from him, and he`s just not cut out at this level. There has not been significant signs of improvement, and the transfer window is about to shut. So it`s time to move forward, without him.
And please take Greg & Gav with you.

So getting promoted with a squad not really fir for promotion and then struggling with virtually the same squad the next season in a vastly improved L1 means the game has moved on from him, wow. There is no room for sentiment but way to slip the knife in right up up to the hilt.

When was the last time you came way thinking we had it tactically spot on ? When was the last time, he made changes to players, and tactics, and changed the outcome of a game ? There`s no optimism on the pitch, there`s nothing to make me think, he`ll suddenly figure it out, and pull us up the table. If he got us promoted with a squad not fit for promotion, then why isn`t his tactical genius showing now ? He`s getting outclassed by pretty much every manager he comes up against, our record against the other teams down the bottom shows that.

We're all Carlisle United fans, with varying opinions on the game of football. But (thankfully) none of us have to deliver. Simmo does. And this season has, of course, been disappointing. Most of us thought we'd struggle, but maybe not this much. Simmo has made mistakes - I'd classify Plange as one of them - but he nevertheless got us to League One before any of us would have guessed. It's looking like we'll get relegated - although a string of wins might give us a chance. If we do go down, I don't think it'll be easy to get back up - especially on the bounce. But to want him to go, now, I think is premature.

Except that he has got us promoted from the 4th division twice, so who is better qualified to bring us back? Greg kept us up for a few seasons. A feat that inexplicably no one gives him credit for. Did you hear the announcer yesterday? That lassie who has been at the club for 30 years has seen 29 managers! Simpson's earned the right to try and get us back up
