Turned on the Leeds v Brentford commentary in the car today to hear the female commentator say “Brentford have only won once at Leeds in 16 attempts dating back to the 1940s - that’s quite amazing really when you look at where the two teams are in the league table”.
Almost on a par with the lass doing the Blackpool v Forest FA cup game a couple of weeks back “and he kicked the ball right into the goal”.

All commentators say stupid things, gender is not really an indicator.
What annoys me is the pitch of the majority of female commentary at the minute, especially when they get excitable and they're squeaking down the microphone like a demented chipmunk. It grates like someone scarping their nails over a blackboard.
I don't care what sex the commentator is as long as their voice is below a certain pitch. So the essential attribute of a female commentator is a deep voice.

Peter Jones with expert analysis by Jimmy Armfield used to be a good combination. I went off it when it always seemed to be Alan Green with one of Mark Lawrenson, Chris Waddle or Terry Butcher.

Aye as a young lad on the radio you only got the second half on a Saturday afternoon. Brian Butler, Peter Jones and Alan Parry were the commentators.
The only live games on the telly in those days were the FA Cup Final, European Cup Final and England v Scotland!
On a Sunday the highlights on ITV had different commentators. Brian Moore in London, Gerald Sinstadt in the north west, Roger Thames in he north east, Huw Johns in the midlands and Gerry Harrison in East Anglia. All good commentators compared with the BBC who had Motson, Davies and Gubba.
Those were the days!

Radio Cumbria used to play the Radio 2 commentary which would be interrupted by Len Brewer with Carlisle updates, something like “there’s been another goal at Selhurst Park and I’m afraid it’s not good news for Carlisle United.”

Indeed not.
That high pitched Scouse voice is awful to endure.

Little bit off topic but, I've noticed post-pandemic that the BBC have stopped adding the attendance to some of their match reports. It's just lazy and does my head in.
edited to add: and, the league two table only shows played, GD and points whereas the others are a little more comprehensive.

Try changing your view on the bottom of the page Ausmeister, you can still see the whole table.

I often find during the major international tournaments, the option to listen to the Five Live commentary instead of the TV is so much better. Some will probs disagree, but Chris Sutton is actually a really good pundit on radio - not as keen when he does TV though.

This is where I think criticism of James Phillips is unfair. If you listen to BBCR5L and Talk Sport commentary, there's often not much commentating going on, more a chat with the pundits in-between fleeting commentary. JP is great at depicting what is actually going on, then Lummy chips in with great punditry.
