100% the right decision to release him
after his injury he needed to play every week, that extra season at L2 will have done him well.
Wasn’t ready to play L1 football - like most of our team

It's all academic now and in the event has probably helped him develop faster than if he'd stayed at BP given the debacle that unfolded here. Good luck to the lad. I wish him well. There is a lesson here for Simpson though...if he insists on playing wingbacks ensure that they are pacy and skilful enough to fulfil the role. The ones he did retain clearly weren't up to the job. Personally however I'd probably go with a back four with two experienced full backs focused on defending with some pace provided further up the park in midfield and on the wings. Either approach could work if the personnel is right.

He was a good attacking full-back but never seemed to perform quite as well after suffering a significant injury. I think defensively he was suspect.
Performed well in the play-offs but didn't really look settled at times when he did play. I think it was the right decision to release him at the time, I'd probably take him back now for L2 though over what we currently have.

No idea if it's true, but I heard the surgeons verdict when he was in recovery wasn't great. He actually had 2 injuries? And the chance of something recurring was pretty high.
Glad to see he has done so well. To get his break in football then have it snatched away must be tough. Hopefully he'll play well next year except against us.

He was let go cos they had players targeted who were an improvement on him The mistake was not being able to land them The player earmarked to replace him - Jason Lowe who's had an absolute shocker at Port Vale who are just as bad a team as we are.

A mistake not keeping a player whose finished as player of the season for the team 16th in League 2 and lost to the bottom club yesterday? It was the right decision he might have had a good season but wouldn't have been any more suited to the step up than those we have, great to see he's done well but wouldn't have made us any better

That in itself would have been an improvement. The same argument could be made about Patrick and Gordon. I don't think any of them were L1 standard but their replacement by slower players has clearly been a mistake.

Simpson likes a full-back who is great going forward but rubbish defensively. That's why we signed Back.
I'd have kept Senior and played him on the wing with a proper full-back behind him.

At the time I genuinely thought it was the correct decision as he had been pretty poor until the playoff and that we would need better in L1. Obviously with the benefit of hindsight it looks like the wrong call as we have been very poor in the WB positions particularly from an offensive perspective. And although in the league below he's obviously been a consistent performer and the performances for us at the end where not one offs and where the start of him regaining his form. Pretty much my thoughts aswell bob, thought he was pretty poor for the most part last season before coming good in the play-offs. He was, quite rightly, going to be third choice this season so it was probably the right decision at the time. Over time it’s probably proved to be the wrong decision.

Emmanuel is quicker than Senior and doesn't have the quality for league 1 so it isn't just about being ok cause he had pace. We needed a right back with pace and quality that's been the mistake, Senior would have made zero difference

Agreed about Morecambe, but being player of the season for a team finishing 16th, whether it was Morecambe or anyone else, it's not a reason to suggest we made a mistake, he was released because league 1 is a step up and even the player of the season year he's had doesn't mean he can make that step

If he is he can’t have been putting in much effort if you remember back to the Northampton game. He came an 83 minute substitute, fresh legs and then did this. I’m pretty sure Senior would have at least made a tackle.
