Joel Senior has won player of the season for Morecambe.
He contributed at key moments in the play off semis and Wembley for us last year so has a proven big match temperament.
Surely he would have fitted into Simpsons wing back approach far more capably than Ellis or Back?

Said at the time they should have kept him.
Fin Back was lined up to play this season but he’s always been a bit of a crock.

(At the time I thought it was a mistake, with the performances of all the RB this season it’s likely that Senior would have been a better option than what we have now.

He was let go cos they had players targeted who were an improvement on him
The mistake was not being able to land them

Given Simmo’s preference for playing wing backs it struck me as odd that he released our paciest most attacking minded right back. Senior had come good at the business end of the season and was one of our key players in winning the play-offs. His reward was to be binned off while the likes of Barclay, Robinson and McCalmont were retained. Didn't make sense to me at the time and has proved to be a clear error as nobody better was recruited.

Was it not a right sided wing back they had in the building only for his agent to call just before he signed? I think if we’d decided pre-season to keep Senior quite a few would’ve been disappointed with the lack of ambition. But ambition is pointless if you can’t deliver on it…

Hindsight is 20/20. If at the time people had been offered Senior or Back, most would have gone for Back, even with the injury worries. If we thought we could get better, there was no point keeping him here to rot on the bench.
I'm personally just glad he's gone on to do good things elsewhere, he deserves it.

No, that's an odd way to read what I said, but thanks for putting words in my mouth.
There's been plenty of mistakes made this season by Simmo that were obvious from the off. Senior was not one in my opinion.

It's ok, we can try and re sign him in the summer and because he used to play for us.

I said at the time it was a mistake to let him go. He was the only one I was bothered about tbh. Would have been a far better option in a back 5 than what we ended up with.

No because our budget needed to be spent on experienced league 1 players.
He came good in playoffs and great to see him doing well.

At the time I genuinely thought it was the correct decision as he had been pretty poor until the playoff and that we would need better in L1. Obviously with the benefit of hindsight it looks like the wrong call as we have been very poor in the WB positions particularly from an offensive perspective. And although in the league below he's obviously been a consistent performer and the performances for us at the end where not one offs and where the start of him regaining his form.
