Averaged 8,000 at home this season, remarkable given the shite on show for the most part (we were 3 people away on Saturday from being precisely 8,000 without having to round up). By my reckoning that’s the highest average attendance we’ve had for 48 years, the season after we were relegated from the top flight, 75/76. Saturday was the lowest Saturday gate of the season, the only 3 lower figures were all Tuesday nights. Only 6 gates of under 7,000 and 4 of over 10,000. www.footballwebpages.co.uk/carlisle-united/attendances

Absolutely fantastic. Could have been so much more if we had been capable of making a fight of it. Good start to next season is vital and I honestly believe we can push 9k if we get things right on the pitch.

Have we automatically been counting season ticket holders in reported gates whether they attend or not?

Incredible support in the circumstances. One of the other positives this year has been the greater number of away supporters at BP. It would be interesting to know what the average would be with the away fans stripped out. What happened to your spreadsheet Moonie? Was it too much of a hassle to maintain? Our average away support must be at a high level too. Do we still hold the L1 record for taking the largest away following this season? The last statistics I looked at a few months ago showed our trips to Bolton and Wigan were the highest and third highest away followings this season.

Couldn’t find the average away followings blencathra, any idea where they are please? We’re second bottom of the attendances at away games though, only Fleetwood below us. We’re obviously not a big draw for other club’s home fans!

Sorry dstander I can't definitively remember where I saw it but I've a feeling it was in January.I've a vague recollection that radio Cumbria posted the statistics but I could be wrong. At the time we were averaging about 1100 but it will have dropped since. Apart from Wigan and Bolton are there any L1 grounds with room for more than 4,000 away fans? We will only be overtaken if one of the bigger clubs took that many to those grounds.

Nigel Clibbens once wrote to me saying that good results on the pitch would increase the attendance - not a change of ownership. I think this dreadful season has pretty much shown that claim to be false. Yes, a few games against big clubs such as Derby will be a contributing factor, but the biggest reason must be the optimism caused by the Piataks taking over.

Have we automatically been counting season ticket holders in reported gates whether they attend or not? Of course they will count season ticket holders, they have paid there money. When Clubs announce a total sell out for a match i can`t imagine every single person turns up.

Might get them once the season’s finished.

Even without the away fans our home average will be well over 7k. Had we been where Stevenage are, we'd probably be pushing past 9k by now. I didn't get a chance to update the spreadsheet for a few weeks, at which point I gave up on it. I'll try again next season. I think somebody (Derby?) took more than us to either Wigan or Bolton a couple of months back but can't be sure. We've definitely got 2 of the top 5 though, and our away average will finish above 1k - incredible given how poor we've been, and the distances we've travelled.

Derby took just over 5,000 to Barnsley a couple of month ago, likely to be the highest this season in league one. They took 3,000 to Bolton and 3,800 to Wigan on Boxing Day.
