Fantastic seeing it being occupied by Carlisle fans again. I'm old enough to remember it being regularly used. I was there a few times in the 1970s including the FA cup tie with Arsenal. My favourite memory however was when Balderstone scored a penalty against Sunderland in our promotion season in 1973/4. Has anyone else got special memories from being in or seeing things in the Waterworks?

In the late 1950s and 1960s I was always at the waterworks end. 1965 was a hight point there. Having lost at Mansfield 2-0 at Easter on 19 April 1965 we played them again on 20 April 1965 and won 3-0. Promotion and top of the league table. An emphatic victory, a pitch invasion, cigars on the balcony and, at the end of it all, thrilling night for the Blues.

I liked it when the barcodes ran on from there and attacked their own keeper while we were handing them a good slapping on Boxing Day 1983. Also, the Aldershot playoff game and Chris Billy's goal comes to mind (did I imagine we had fans in the Waterworks that night?)

Remember away fans in there, started rocking the old scoreboard, from side to side. Thought it was coming down. Years ago, but can't remember which fans. Newcastle?

Same game, Boxing Day 1983.

I don’t want to be pedantic but was it not the 27th December?

Correct. We played Boro away on Boxing Day, won there too!

Some great pictures of the crowd on Friday, what a difference it makes to have supporters in all areas of the ground, would be great to see people in there for at least 1 more game this season, shame we are playing Stockport on a Tuesday as I can imagine they would bring a big number especially with so much counting on the game with us.

I don’t want to be pedantic but was it not the 27th December? Why don't you want to be pedantic? I'll flog myself repeatedly with a rolled up copy of "Shoot!" for being a day wrong, almost forty years later. Unacceptable.

We beat Boro 1-0 with a rare Jack Ashurst goal. I was at Derwent Park watching Town beat Carlisle at rugby league. Big cheer when they announced the football score, oddly enough I didn’t have a Smart phone to keep in touch with the football. The Newcastle keeper attacked by his own fans was dropped and replaced by Kevin Carr.

I don't reckon Thomas was to blame for any of our three goals.
First was a penalty, Coughlin's goal was an excellent strike and Tommy Craig's chip one of the classiest finishes I've ever seen at Brunton Park.

Very strong wind on the day towards the Waterworks end because Newcastles first goal was a wind assisted cross by Waddle. Total fluke.
Piglet is spot on about Coughlins and Craig’s goals. Jeez have I just agreed with Piglet!

I was in the Warwick for that Newcastle game and remember the goals well but not the scoreboard incident in the Waterworks. I never envied the man whose job was to climb the ladder to put the half time scores up. It always looked a bit dodgy particularly if there were boisterous away fans in there.

Jack Ashurst had Keegan in his pocket that day, unfortunately KK escaped from the pocket in the away match.

Open to home fans for the Salford game, seemingly...
