Keep or return? Deffo a keep for me. He's been unlucky with injury and the form of others in his position. Came on at Crewe and showed some creative ability. He knows the lads and the system and is already part of the team so I like to see him stay.

As you say he's been very unlucky. Had a decent game down at Newport just before his injury, and there's clearly a player in there - I'm just a bit concerned that he can't get football even when Gibson is struggling. I guess it comes down to what Simmo sees in training. Think I'd be happy for him to say, but not too bothered if he were to leave at this point - as long as a there is a replacement!

A few people I've spoken to think that he's gone back to Fulham.
Never like the idea that a player is too small, but I'm not sure he has developed the awareness or has the pace a short player in this division needs, not to say that he won't but he needs a midtable club where he is getting regular game time without the pressure of a promotion charge.

He’s clearly talented with the ball at his feet but not sure he fits our formation. He’s only going to get an opportunity out wide but he lacks pace, he’s more of a “number 10” - similar problem Zach Clough had.
For his own sake, it might be best he found a move where he could get more game time. However, I think he’s a more than capable back-up for Gibson, Stretton etc.
If there was an opportunity to get a quick wide player on loan instead I’d go for that.

Gone back to Fulham, as suggested.

Good luck to the lad. As mentioned earlier, he's been unlucky here, and this is probably the best for all parties. Hopefully this frees up a little bit of cash to put into the war kitty.

Can only assume we are confident at bringing in a forward,be a little disappointed if we don’t and have let Hilton go . It is not as though we have many options at present.

Let's be honest, he couldn't possibly have been any worse than Gibson has been this season.
It's got to be frustrating to have a player playing so poorly being given the shirt every week when you're not given a fair opportunity yourself.
Slightly different situation to Idehen when you have Mellish and Armer playing well and limiting opportunity, this one looks like poor management to me.

It wasn't just Gibson keeping him out of the side, it was also Taylor Charters - and even now Charters is out, his chances would have been very limited with Devitt back in the frame. Hilton was unfortunate picking up the injury when he did, as he looked decent at Newport. Other than that one game, it never really happened for him even when he did get on the pitch. I think this is the best move for all parties, and I expect it means we'll have another attacking midfielder coming in.

Hilton played 85 minutes for us split over seven league games.
He was given one minute against Crawley, five minutes against Swindon, one minute against Stevenage, thirteen minutes against Gillingham and seven minutes against Mansfield. Just what did you expect him to do in the time he was given in these games?
To say it "never really happened for him" is entirely bizarre.
He was given 25 minutes at Newport and looked decent, as he did in his half hour against Crewe.
It's fairer to say when Hilton was given a reasonable amount of time on the pitch for us he looked promising, he certainly didn't do anything wrong.

It's fairer to say when Hilton was given a reasonable amount of time on the pitch for us he looked promising, he certainly didn't do anything wrong. Like I say, he was unlucky with the timing of his injury, as his performance at Newport may well have propelled him into the starting xi. I didn't think he looked brilliant at Crewe - I fact he was the one player who didn't really impress me on the night - keeping in mind that we were already playing very well when he came on, and his time was against 10 men, whose heads were well and truly down. He had a couple of nice touches but was guilty of giving it away on multiple occasions - I actually avoided mentioning in my ratings as he was the one player I couldn't really give a positive review, and I didn't want to put a blight on the otherwise very positive reviews. Simpson clearly didn't believe that Hilton was the best option available to him, so why would he give him any more time than he did? The fact is, he didn't - and so it never really happened for him here. Nothing bizarre in that whatsoever. He barely played, it didn't happen for him.

The fact he’s nearly 22 and has had so little first team experience tells a story.
Simmo hasn’t given him a league start for a reason and I’m sure he’d have loved to have given him more of a chance despite what piglet says!

The view from a Fulham supporting mate of mine is that his loan here had been a flop. My more charitable view was he simply wasn't robust enough for League Two despite showing glimmers of skill. He also had a recurrent ankle injury which meant he had to be wrapped in cotton wool. As Moonie said it just didn't work out for him here. Nobody's fault.

Unlike the lad at Rochdale (whose name escapes me) who has a similar height and build, he was totally unable to impose himself physically in any of the games he played in.
His Fulham pedigree should guarantee the flashes of skill and awareness he showed at times, but he was simply too small and lightweight for L2.

Scored on his first game back for Fulham’s U21s tonight.
