I know there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth because you're not allowed to be critical of the Piataks at all in the slightest - they can do no wrong, etc. However, we can judge them by their own words, or by Tom Snr's words to be precise.
1) "we’re open and transparent" - Hold that thought.
2) "We have short, mid and long term plans. Short term is to survive in League One." Fail
3) "We’re going into the January transfer window looking to be pretty active by shoring up the squad" Fail
4) "We have a strong management team, with Nigel Clibbens as chief executive and Suzanne Kidd as chief financial officer and then Paul. We have a great leadership group." Fail - On Clibbens and Kidd's watch the club found itself £3 million in debt and was in thralldom to Philip Day.
5) "I’m a big believer that you have to invest initially." you could've fooled me: Fail
6) "I believe if you build it, they will come". He actually said this. They will not come if the team is one of the worst in our history, no matter what you "build": Fail
7) "With the ‘Own the North’ branding, I mentioned the phrase in a presentation with the Carlisle United official supporters’ club and it’s kind of taken on a life of its own. We love that and when a club come to Carlisle we want them to know it’s going to be a tough place to play." Fail
8) "I’m a firm believer that Carlisle belongs no worse than League One. Probably the Championship would be its right spot. If we can get three to five years from now and get mid-table in the Championship, that would be a tremendous success. The Premier League? I would never say no." Hard Fail.
9) "We’re planning for League One. If for any reason we don’t maintain [our current League One status], we’re planning for League One next year and we’re planning to have a squad that can get us back to League One. We’re not saying ‘either or’, we’re planning to basically build a League One squad because we’d want to come back and be strong" Fail
10) "We have been competitive in most matches. Sometimes one or two things go your way" Fail
11) "I definitely believe the players we have added in the January transfer window can help us in the short-term and long-term. I believe we made really good decisions in a very difficult window" Fail
12) "We have a third of the season left. We can survive League One – it is realistic and achievable, even if it is getting more difficult and that’s still our goal" Fail
13) "We’ve told him early on this is a long-term process and he is part of the plan, I think he is an outstanding manager. He’s doing everything he can and I do believe he is the right manager at the right time for what we’re trying to do." Fail
14) "He added that there is a “minimum” target of what should be expected over the remaining 16 games, but said that is an “internal” matter within the club." Refer to #1 - "we’re open and transparent" - Double Fail.
Their own words.
What a disgrace.
