Back to business on Tuesday night, with forecasts set to rise well above freezing over the next few days. The monkey murderers from the east make their way to Brunton Park on the back of a 2-0 victory over fellow strugglers, Rochdale. That win lifts Hartlepool out of the relegation zone, though they remain just 2 points ahead of both Dale and Gillingham. They've won 2 of their last 5, both of those victories coming against Rochdale. Even with that double, they've won just 5 league games all season, with just 2 of those coming on their travels - and they've lost 9 of their 13 away games. They average exactly 1 goal for and 2 against on their travels.
Carlisle and Hartlepool have faced each other 108 times in competitive football, with the Cumbrians having the better of things historically. We've beaten them 51 times, drawing 20, and losing 37. They've not beaten us in their last 6 visits to Brunton Park, with their last success here over a decade ago. The last meeting between the 2 sides saw us took place in October at the Victoria Ground, where we emerged victorious despite trailing at the break. Owen Moxon's long range equaliser was followed up by an Omari Patrick brace. Patrick was a second half substitute, scored his two goals, then promptly went off injured, not to be seen again until Saturday's victory over Newport. Pools usually bring a decent following to BP, but this may be dented by the fixture taking place on a Tuesday, as well as their poor showings on the road so far this season.
The visitors have signed a few players during the current window - Daniel Dodds (on loan from Middlesborough) is a fullback who was briefly linked with us before we signed Jack Robinson. He impressed on his debut today, with new CB Edon Pruti (a permanent signing from Brentford) also earning positive reviews in his first game for the club. Peter Hartley also played in defence today, having returned to his old club this week - and midfielder Matthew Dolan earned praise from the 'pools faithful having (re)joined from Newport. On the face of it, these signings may be turning the tide for Keith Curle's side - but it's worth noting that they struggled to break Rochdale down today, not taking the lead until after Rochdale's first of two sendings off. Not a game to take lightly - but one we've gotta be looking to win.
Victory here would move us within a point of the automatic promotion places, and with competition for starting positions across the pitch there is plenty of incentive for our lads to perform.
