"Appreciation"
It's still a lap of honour, call it what you like.
The players and management should concentrate on playing actual football and winning football matches. That's the best and only "thanks" they should be giving supporters.
A lap of honour is in poor taste.

That's the best and only "thanks" they should be giving supporters. A lap of honour is in poor taste. They're hardly going to be basking in the adoration of 15,000 ecstatic fans. It's more akin to shaking everybody's hands as they leave the funeral of your nearest and dearest than it is to a victory parade.

I kind of agree with piglet on this.
Whilst it may not be a lap of honour and is supposedly to thank fans, I don’t think it’s in good taste to walk a lap around the pitch after the season they’ve just produced.
Stand in the centre circle, applaud the fans for their backing and then walk off yeah. Even an apologetic holding their hands up would be fine. But don’t do a lap around the pitch. It’s not appropriate.

You've missed the analogy. No. I corrected your poor analogy. To correct something, you'd have to understand it first. It's okay that you didn't.

If the players just hotfooted it down the tunnel sharpish people would whine about them not marking the final home game in some way.
Can I suggest putting the players/coaching staff/owners in stocks at full time and fans can throw soft fruit and vegetables at them if they see fit?

Going by todays trust bit on the news and star we should clap - I’m surprised they haven’t organised an open top bus parade and civic reception for their efforts.

They shouldn’t just hotfoot it down the tunnel no. Stand in the centre circle, hold their hands up in apology to fans for their pathetic performances, applaud fans to show appreciation for a few minutes. Then walk off slowly.
No laps. It’s inappropriate and awkward for everyone.

Great news, the players will be doing a lap of honour after the game to celebrate their achievements this season. No, they won't. 'United will undertake a lap of appreciation at the end of Saturday’s game, Simpson told us: “It’s not going to be a case of players coming off the pitch and collecting family members. “The players are going to stay on the pitch and go round, we know it’s not a celebration, it’s more a thank you.
“ We know this season has been a huge disappointment to us all and we owe it to the fans to go and thank them, and we hope the numbers turn up for the game.' www.carlisleunited.co.uk/news/2024/april/manager-we-owe-it-to-the-fans-to-go-and-thank-them/Who the fcuk is Harley Picken ? Pretty sure thats not the Geordie guy

It’s inappropriate and awkward for everyone. I'm sure the intention is to offer thanks to the fans but I agree with Crunch's suggestion. It would be a better look than a lap of honour/shame.

They pretty much do this after every game, win lose or draw If they took off down the tunnel without acknowledging the fans they’d be crucified.
