Good read and would be happy if it when exactly like that, feel like the 14 who you’d keep is a good base of a squad. Really hope we get some pace in tho cause that is a slow squad. Also nice to see someone else agree with me that all mccalmont can do is press 🤣

For me the first thing he needs to do is to decide if our go to line up is 3 or 4 at the back if its 3 then the absolute priority is to sign two proper wing backs [ in my opinion that would be wingers who can defend and not the other way round] then if you ever want to play with a four you have a wide number of options to play the full back rolls.
I dont see how you can start to sign players for other positions until youve sorted that one out.

The only decent signing of the January window I reckon, as long as he can stay fit. With little doubt Huntington will be released, I think Vela would make a good captain. If Lavelle stays I think he should be relieved of the pressure of team captaincy. Totally agree, if Lavelle stays he shouldn't be captain, hopefully his form will improve the same way Guy's did once the armband was gone.

We just didn't have the personnel for the system he was trying to play. Elementary stuff. It's not rocket science is it.

Work out your preferred game plan and recruit players to fit the system.

I'm looking forward to seeing a bit more of Vela next season, slyly knacking the odd opposition player and chipping in with a few goals. One of the signings that I think will come good. The only decent signing of the January window I reckon, as long as he can stay fit. Only thirty and appears to have the skill of game management - just noticed that in his full twelve full seasons as a pro he has never played lower than League One. So much for this 'no player will sign for a team that look like being relegated' rubbish as he signed for us knowing the possible scenario and had more to ride on it as being at Carlisle United in League Two is currently a career low for him. He obviously backed himself for either scenario when he signed and worst case scenario he will have a shiny League Two winners medal to show for it.

I have a feeling that every player we signed permanently in Jan was with an eye more on L2 than L1…

I have a feeling that every player we signed permanently in Jan was with an eye more on L2 than L1… I would have hoped not, I don't even think that we were in the bottom four at the time and we had splashed out on a keeper and striker so it appeared that we were strengthening the side to avoid relegation. Our league form after however would indicate that we let go better players than we recruited - that losing run we went on would destroy any team though unfortunately.

Have they retained the retained list?? Maybe the delays down to negotiating Simmo's move to director of football (fingers crossed)
