We keep talking about firing Simpson. Does it not make more sense to fire Greg? I was watching Kelly yesterday. At Christmas we suddenly had a decent budget, and we were within striking distance of survival. And that is what Greg gave us to make it happen. Just fkin laughable. I know Kelly has been injured, and if he has been offered 150k a year for 3 years, of course he jumped at it. Recruitment now up to final interview stage is a job for nerds. It's like accounting, look at a spreadsheet with thousands of numbers and spot the one that is wrong. Greg does not strike me as a nerd who can instantly name 5 full backs who can defend the front post from a corner and would come to Brunton. All this crap that we had another 3 to 6 players who wanted to come but pulled out at the 11th hour, why are we wasting hugely valuable time and effort on players who have no intention of coming? Let's get someone in who has an encyclopedic knowledge of football players and who can match that to our legion of weaknesses.
This insane notion that just because you can kick a ball around a field you are a good data analyst, coach, summariser, manager. Nonsense, the skills are completely different. Let's get a decent recruitment team before we waste a year's budget. Micromanagement has drilled down as far as the kitman so the recruitment team can be in the cross-hairs as well.

I have a horrible feeling that the budget will be wasted if it’s down to purely Greg and Simmo. Both strike me as “ old school” when it comes to signing players. If the target says the right things then their attitude is “ spot on “ and they are clearly “desperate “ to play for us. Unfortunately they just find players who are desperate and lacking key qualities such as being a decent footballer.

Recruitment has been awful and that's his remit so there isn't any logical reason he should still be in his job. The same applies to Simmo as he appointed Greg and is ultimately responsible for approving them. Simmo said in his interview that players will be told on Monday if they are to be retained and that there is no room for sentiment. The same principle should apply off the pitch. If he isn't going to resign he could at least give Greg his cards. We can't afford another botched transfer window.

Abbott is Simpson's man. If Abbott's not doing his job properly, Simpson should have fired him. Both should go.

It`s a bit concerning that in most of the recent interviews, where Simpson has talked about next year, and changing the squad, he would say "We need to" "Myself & the scouting team need to" and "And Greg needs to"
This doesn`t fill me with hope, that we`ll get the right players in, if we leave the same people in charge of recruitment.
Hopefully this time tomorrow, both will be gone, or shortly on their way.

For me this window should be an absolute walk in the park compared to the majority of previous windows for CUFC. We have cash available, time on our hands and most importantly we have ambition and a vision of a bright future to sell. Simmo, Greg and co's future is riding on this window so, over to you guys.

Simpson said he's been targeting Kelly for a while (before Abbott came in), Simmo also said the Same about Lewis , Neal etc.
Although Kelly will be a good player In league 2 , he was one our plyer who seemed to get compliments and he actually won a fair share of headers.

The quality of the balls we put into the box has been very poor, Armer in particular yesterday got into decent position but just did not deliver.. There was a ball that Mendez-Laing put in which was absolute quality, the lad should have scored but it went through his legs at the back post. I'm not saying that Kelly and particularly Armstrong haven't been poor, but if we can get 2/3 players, preferably wide players/full backs who can provide deliveries of similar quality I think that they will look far better than they have done so far. Moxon last season showed that a bit of quality on a delivery can create a hell of a lot of goals in L2.

By signing these players it would seem Greg didn't appear to see what we needed, not addressing the defensive issue for starters.
Virtually nothing went for us this season.
Paying big money for League Two players was a bit silly really as they were not guaranteed to be able to make the step up to League One, if we had bought established League One players or higher instead (fit ones) then you give yourself a better chance of survival and a calibre of player at League Two level who can make the step up if relegation happens.
It made me angry how they turned it on yesterday because they were aware that they were on SKY, when the presenters praised the odd player of how good they were it boiled my piss.

Not defending the recruitment in January but it it's much more difficult to get the right people in when we were in that situation near the bottom. In hindsight we would have been better sticking with what we had and saving our cash for the summer. Ultimately we would have had the same result at worst, there could even be a case to suggest we may have picked up more points as team spirit would have been higher with Holy, Garner, Edmo ect in the team week in week out.

From the sounds of it we did try , but Location, league position and training facilities put them off...which is fair , ironically thats player you want not money motivated

Hm, imagination the reaction, I've got 1m to spend but I won't. Then we get relegated. I think that would have been suicide. All I can assume is that if we were 532 Emanuel and Armer, or 442 Gibson and Diamond were supposed to put the ball onto Kelly's head, Armstrong would feed off him. In reality, Kelly and Emmanuel were injured, he didn't play Gibson and Diamond, so the whole thing died a death. Quite how it arsed up so royally is anyone's guess, but whatever happened, the defence caved. And having another 3 to 6 players in the building who then left just sounds like a fairy story.

I remember when Simpson announced that he'd brought the clown back to be the head of recruitment and my first thought was ''you've got to be kidding me''.
