If Simmo had been sacked and a replacement brought in, how long would it have taken for a new manager to really understand the complexities of 20+ players' psychology? Mr New might have retained a few players that Simmo understands are part of the problem, thereby prolonging the underlying issues.
It isn't as easy or as straightforward to sort these things out as some believe. As has been said above (and I've also said before) footballers in general aren't the brightest of sparks.
I'd be pleasantly surprised if we gain promotion next season because it takes time to build a winning team. Whatever, the task of rebuilding is now underway.

I have never thought nor said that our troubles were down to one player, so please don't totally misrepresent my views. Yes, it's been no secret that Gibson's attitude has been problematic - all along, not just this season. I have consistently argued that the main issue has been the erosion of confidence. When this happens, some players will make silly excuses and otherwise act unprofessionally. Trouble is, your 'views' are just that and not facts. Now, he's been a problem 'all along'. Again, your opinion and nothing else. Not an ounce of critical thinking on your part. Gibson's dad is on record about his son's attitude. Last season, Simmo stated he'd needed to talk to the player about his attitude. And said player has very recently been punished by the club for unprofessional conduct. These are verifiable facts.

Unsanctioned team bonding event, that's the opposite of being disruptive surely :-) ? There's a difference between unprofessional and being the cause of the rest of the dressing room falling apart (As for McCalmont, if he had a bad attitude, why sign him in the summer, he'd been here for half a season on loan, surely Simpson had an idea of his character by then?)

I have sympathy with Gibson. He was the one good l1 player. Not only could he not get a start but we played no one in the right midfield position. He's watching his career go down the tubes, he's losing appearance /win/goal bonuses and for what? We lost game after game.
Diamond was from Sunderland Happy

So, you're hanging the 'problem all along theory' on his one night of ill considered drinking? Not for one moment have you considered the lads side in all this and perhaps, just perhaps, Simpson has managed him poorly and the relationship therefore broke down. I will add that I don't believe Gibbo is blameless in all this but I do think the truth lies somewhere in the middle, i.e. both could have done better.

I understand the reasoning behind not putting players publicly on the transfer list, but i'd still like to have seen it on the retained/released list. Fairly sure scouting is a lot more in depth (for most teams!), but I am sure clubs look at other club's lists at the end of the season. Seeing, say, McCalmont on there, a club might just take it upon themselves to enquire a bit earlier. Saying that, it's probably the case that their agents have been informed to tout their names about, so I am probably just typing garbage!

I would put the responsibility of finding a new club firmly at the door of the players agent.

I wouldn’t worry about that, all the lads Simpson has said aren’t in his plans for next season will have already been circulated around by their agents.

They will be given time to find a new club, if they don't find a new club that's when mutual terminations will be discussed. Either way we are paying their contract until the 30th of June.

Gibson (Trouble in town/poor attitude)
McCalmont (Apparently it was him who couldn't be bothered to do a warm down)
Fin Back (His missus supposedly posted something sarcastic on social media about Simpson before deleting it)
Any other bad eggs?

Perhaps Simmo is too old school, for modern players, all season he been quite vocal on player shortcomings, and maybe he has extremely pissed these young lads, and not so yung lads off.

You can imagine how the conversation with Simmo went when McCalmont got hauled into the office regarding the piss up.
Simmo - Look, don't deny it, you were seen in The House Of Vodka - we have footage from their CCTV with you showing the barman your ID to enable you to buy drinks.
McCalmont - YOU'RE NOT MY DAD.
