We don't require a complete overhaul to achieve our objective this season. This squad is still finding its feet in L1, we have played pretty well in most games but have been punished for errors and possibly been a bit unlucky with some refereeing decisions. I still think there is more to come from this current squad of players. The problem is we need a 20 goal a season striker which is probably the most difficult thing to acquire at any level. I would say if everything goes to plan and funds are made available then 2-3 quality additions would be what Simmo would look to bring in, LB, striker and possibly a GK.

If you’re happy to settle for mediocrity then guess what you’ll get??
We are hopefully on the brink of new owners with a bit of ambition. Can’t believe how many on here are happy to “ give them a chance, let them have time “.
In the last 24 games , including last season we have been and are cannon fodder. If you want want to spend the next twenty years in division 2 then keep thinking small time and settle for things as they are.
You sound like you should be a trust member bst and I can’t think of a worse insult than that.

I can.Even the days of Paul Haigh taking free kicks,Bishop spraying passes out wide etc and Stokoe turning up at Great Corby in his battered ford escort throwing footballs and cones out of the boot in his benny hat were far superior to this.Bring back the good old days.

That's quite amusing tbh, so is your expectation for this season in January to sign a load of players and go on a promotion push? We are at a level now where we are punching above our weight financially, consolidation this season is what we need to achieve. Next summer will be the correct time to build a squad to achieve the objectives set by hopefully the Piataks and Simmo.

Some severe negativity here IMO. A lot of the fringe players are young with plenty of time to develop and improve. Look at Moxon for an example of how a player can massively improve after a bit of experience and game time. The idea of a huge clear out would be shooting ourselves in the foot IMO. Yes the squad could do with further strengthening, but not a massive clear out. We need to try to make more use of loaning young players out like we’ve done with Max Kilsby. Yes some will call it negativity.Others will call it realism. As it stands we are going down. You pays your money, you takes your choice.Edited to ask how loaning young players out helps our current plight. Not having a go,its just a question.

Neither were we in div 2 but we went down. Was that the year we won at man city .No i think it was year after. We even had some decent players. If you want to settle for that fair enough.

I think a few on here need a reality check, Simmo has put together a squad on a piss poor budget, we where never going to be pushing for promotion but to say we are almost certainly relegated is a bit premature. Everyone's hopes before the season started was for us to not be relegated this season, new ownership mid season should not change that. Chelsea and Newcastle have both been taken over in the past year or so, look at the contrast between the 2 approaches, Chelsea have spunked a billion quid and have a team worse than when they started. Newcastle have built on what they had and have developed into a very good side. Adding quality to what they already had, im sure that people would have expected Almiron, Murphy, Joelinton out the door as they where deemed not good enough.

I totally agree that strengthening the current squad would be beneficial.

The transfer window means we have to settle for what we’ve got until January. Simpson mentions in today’s interview why he’s not looking at out of contract players. Over the years I’ve seen a lot of very good players look rubbish in reserve/Cumberland cup games. Brad Potts had a terrible game against Carlisle City at Brunton Park in a Cumberland Cup match, he’s currently playing top end Championship football.

As it stands we are going down. Incorrect. "As it stands" we're 19th, not in the relegation places.

Ha.The future is the present.Ever heard of a sinking ship.Eventually it takes on enough water or breaks up and goes under. The Empress Of Ireland wasnt a sinking ship until it sunk.Or the Daniel J Morrel.Sailing merrily along.

The current squad is the best Simmo could put together with the limited budget he had. McGuire, Lavelle and the loans are the only current successes. If the takeover goes through he can then start looking beyond the bargain aisle for our January targets. Having said that, the most important window will be 24/25 when we'll be an established L1 team, with a forward thinking manager and hopefully an amiable board willing to support him.

Lavelle's been the pick of the new signings so far, for me. Given it's still early days hopefully he'll get even better when settles. Looks like an accomplished Division Three defender for 90% of the time.
Maguire looks disappointingly blunt in front of goal for a striker. I really like his movement off the ball and awareness / intelligence but, from his performances so far, that burst of pace over three yards and killer instinct in the box is missing. I reckon he'd be better playing behind a front two where his brain would be more effective.
Plange is the opposite, he's probably doing too much running and searching for the ball away from central areas. I reckon he has all the attributes to be a success playing off the shoulder of a genuine centre-forward, which we obviously still lack in the team.
If Moxon gets his finger out, having someone with Ablade's pace is also a definite asset.
McGeouch's fitness is a bit of a concern, I'd really like to see him in the midfield alongside Guy & a properly motivated Moxon. That's a midfield three which could really blossom at this level.
Then we have the Robinson, McCalmont and Barclay signings which look a bit sentimental, but all three players definitely have the ability and potential to be a success.
So in summary, I reckon our summer signings are doing ok / have the potential to do ok and probably need a little time to settle.
