Piglet`s over in the US isn`t he ? Might be wrong, but I`m sure I read recently, that Kevin Toms, is living in Southampton and working in sales, or insurance or something ? Would make sense, he`s in that area, if he`s a Torquay fan.
Maybe sales of his new Football Manager game, went better than expected, and he could afford the move !
There were only 64 teams in the original game, and most of the others, had a similar number, and also didn`t have Carlisle as an option to manage.

Kevin Toms is living in Canada - well he was a few years back. I spoke to him myself on Facebook at the time he released the new game for phones, I was hopeful that he might do a release for the old Spectrum but he said he didn't think that there was a market big enough for it, even though the Spectrum has a relatively large following still - I though that as it wouldn't be that hard to do then maybe it would have tweaked a bit more interest for his newer version as the retro world would have jumped on it and he would get a lot of coverage. He isn't actually that good at his own game as there is/was a league of thousands for his new game and he was halfway down it!

Not sure where I heard that about Southampton then, thought it might have been in one of his videos, or the comments.
The new game was referred to as a "mobile game" at the time, which put me off.
I do remember him struggling whilst playing it though ! I was expecting him to be the master, but was as bad as we were as teenagers !

I well remember it. Peter Withe, Peter Barnes, Gary Shaw, Dave Watson, Mick Mills. Very limited player pool Meant to say that Kevin Toms is living in your neck of the woods now, one of my pals had a beer with him a few years back - he is a Torquay United supporter. My pal asked why Carlisle United does not feature in the original Football Manager and he said that it wasn't intentional but the leagues are smaller in it and he just had to omit a few teams and wasn't even aware that Carlisle United was one of them. I'd forgot about that, i played a super season on the amiga around 40 seasons long and Carlisle never ever got promoted into league football.

Toms is living in Holland now, apparently.

Moonie - Is this another that might be better in the off topic ?
Alf - OMG ! I LOVED that screenshot you posted in the Gibson thread ! haven`t played that game for a while, but that genuinely gave me shivers, and makes me want to get that updated version installed.
Munchy - Issues installing CM-03/04 ? That might be due to windows. Just over a year ago, I had FM 07/08/10/11 installed in windows 10, with no trouble, but then the brastrads went and changed the DRM on it, so now it won`t install.
Piglet - Are you still playing ?

Football related this, isn't it?
I've started a season with Eastleigh.
Severely restricted by budget, small squad, no youth set up etc etc.
It's December and I'm second in the table, one point behind Chesterfield. Just drawn 4-4 with Portsmouth in the FA Cup after being 0-4 down at half-time.
I have Jayden Harris playing like Pele.
To be frank, the game is utter b_llocks. Doesn't hold a candle to the 00/01 & 01/02 versions which were a genuine challenge. Talking to the media is f_cking tedious, as are the "staff meetings" and other such s_ite.
Apologies for the profanity.

It's slightly dubious, but piglet is right - its roots lie in football. I'll allow it

You`re on FM24 ? There should be a patch coming in the new year, and one more after the window closes, but then they`re going all out for FM25.

Anyone else refuse to go as Carlisle when playing FM? Always think too biased to do it justice!
Started a game as Millwall, seemingly one of the better goes as they have sod all coin etc…

This is like re-living my teens and early 20's reading this thread. I started with as follows Football Manager Football Director Tracksuit Manager Football Challenge (or summat like that) The Double Soccer Boss Champ Manager (English and Italian) 90's versions then onto 02/04 FM (although I stuck with CM TBH)
Like I said on another thread I always started at the bottom and kind of got used to spending no money on players so even when I got up to the Top League I'd use the money to expand the stadium (if the locals didn't protest to keep you back a full year). I'd trawl the released list and offer a trial to any youngsters released from bigger clubs and then once you get them on trial you could get them to accept a reduced wage mostly.
I'm another who avoided Carlisle and tended to stick with my original club.

The guyes who made championship manager fell out with the computer house and then just renamed it FM and carried on as they were, CM then went to shit. As stated by everybody, the press releases in the modern games are an utter bore but you can set your Assistant manager to attend them, you can knock off the staff meetings. As for playing Carlisle, I always play as Carlisle. In the Amiga 500 version CM 02 when Carlisle didn't exist, I took Cambridge, Cardiff, Exeter and Torquay to the PL lol

I reckon the latest version I have is 03/04 and then had years off and went back to it a few years after so just stuck with my old saves. Like I said I couldn't get it up and running so I'll be checking the Facebook link out.
The problem is you get on that and you don't want to do out else and TBH I'd rather hit the Fells nowadays.

Yup, the reason I have never gone on online world games, may as well quit my job and lock the door from the inside and disappear from real life lol
