Picked this up recently, haven't played it for well over twenty years. Does MerseysideBlue still do the Carlisle United player attributes? Johnny Allen: (Finishing - 20) Anyway, I was shocked at how dumbed down it has become. Who cares about the "match engine" graphically representing the game? Back in the day it was all about attributes, statistics and monitoring the data in real time to inform your in game decisions. This aspect of the simulation appears to be lost. Now all you have "in game" is a single ethereal player rating for each player and a heart symbol. Where have the "live" in game stats gone, the actual fitness %, all the numbers required to inform tactical decisions in play? Only just seen this - not done it for a couple of years now! The Jonny Allan stats was before my time too.

Aye Mellish would be rated 21 in all categories if Lee still did them! 😂

There`s a long discussion on their official forums, where someone had a striker, that couldn`t score, despite good attributes, and so he put a 17 year old, crap, reserve GK up front, and he was getting higher ratings, and scoring ! It`s gone on for many pages over there, but the developers, haven`t said a word in response yet. But the gist is, attributes don`t seem to matter.
Can anyone recommend a Spectrum emulator, that will work on windows 10 ? I have an old CD, with an emulator on, and about 5K games, but it won`t work on windows 10, but it is almost 30 years old now, so that`s probably why.
If there`s a Spectrum game, anyone wants to play, but can`t get hold of, let me know, and I`ll see if it`s on there, and I can upload it.

I was always under the impression there were hidden attributes on there, one of which would be adaptability. I can see a scenario where if you have a keeper with high determination and work rate stats and a high adaptability stat where this might work. It's reasonable to assume most folk wouldn't be sticking a keeper upfront, but you could still see an adaptability stat which exists to help your keeper learn different roles (sweeper keeper etc). Patching this out is probably harder than you would think, and to be honest it's not worth it as a decent striker would still be a better fit. Some forwards have all the attributes to be goalscorers but for some reason, just can't finish. Shane Long, Craig Curran, Sean Maguire - all have a very low hidden "goalscorer" stats

I can see how that might work, but the GK he put up front, had an off the ball stat of 1, which is key for forwards, but if anything, it`s led to a lengthy discussion about attributes on their forums.
I think adapatability, is how players are able to be retrained in another position, or learn a new trait/move etc. Not 100% on that, but I do know it is a key number, for players moving abroad, and how they settle.
Back in CM01/02, I would always sign Nicola Ventola from Inter, he didn`t have world class numbers, but looked fairly decent, and he would score goals every time I bought him, it was his off the ball, at about 19-20, that made all the difference.
I hope Armstrong doesn`t get added to your list, anytime soon !

Anyone still playing this ? Recent patch came out, but they look like they`re now onto FM25, and there won`t be any major changes to this version, despite them claiming they wanted it to be "A love letter to Football Manager"
I`m looking at another game, "We Are Football 24" a German dev team, and the first one came out last year, but didn`t look great, but this 2nd one, looks a HUGE improvement on it, and in time this could be a serious rival to the FM series. It`s a bit expensive right now, but with a big discount, on sale, I think I`ll give it a go.

I started a game managing our team.
Not easy, you're saddled with a plethora of awful loan players and are given less resource than Simpson to sign players pre-season.
It's not impossible however, once I'd improved the defence (three new central defenders) and hit the tactical sweetspot I lost interest because success is inevitable.

FM26 is a colossal change to a new engine, so I wouldn't expect any big changes in this patch, or even in FM25 really. I still play regularly though, really enjoy the game and doing an academy-trained / locals only save of Carlisle. It's really satisfying to start off bringing back names like Potts, Gillespie and Dempsey, then progress to building up the academy to best in the world and using players from it pretty much exclusively.

Be good if you could see a network of how your players get on with the others, make it more man management-y. Maybe there is, I haven't played the new version. Jumpers for goalposts, did it go in? Time for tea, mums shouting, marvellous!

I find I can`t make it past a 2nd season, with any team I manage. And tend to follow the same gameplan, every time I dive into a save.
Run it for 5-10 seasons, to let the tables change up, and see which big club has fallen, and then take over one of them.
Day 1 I go through the entire team, and if it`s a big club with close to 100 players on the books, I release a ton of them, and list all the others I don`t want, whilst looking to extend contracts for those that are in my plans.
Same for the coaching staff, big clearout, and bring in as many coaches as the board will let me, and then ask for more. Max out the scouting team, and send them off to work.
Spend hours in the player search, finding players I want, depending on how much money I have, if I have loads, then as many young wonderkids as I can find, or ones with high physical attributes, and determination. And if no money to spend, I go through all the prem teams, and look at their released players, and try to sign as many as I can.
Click continue, and begin the game.
Finish 1st season, and more often than not, have won promotion, or qualifed for Europe, and the board have agreed to upgrade the training/youth facilities, and allowed me to add some affiliates.
Better than I was a year ago, so all those high potential youngsters I shortlisted at the start, are now keen to come and play.
And this is when it begins to go pear-shaped for me, and I quickly lose interest.
A player tells me "I`m better than I was when I signed 6-12 months ago, and want a new contract"
How about no ? you signed a 5 year deal, get on with your football.
"What ? how dare you ! I`m offended, and I`m going to tell everyone what you did"
Eh ? OK, good luck with that then !
Click continue..
8 players come to me demanding to know why I refused a new contract for said player.
None of your business, get on with your football I say.
"What ? That`s not the end of this ! We`re seriously beginning to lose faith in your ability as manager !"
Eh ? We`ve just won promotion you numpties !? I think I`m doing fine ! <<< Sadly, there isn`t an option to say this.
"You`re going to have a mutiny on your hands ! just wait and see !"
Oh great ! So I transfer list the player in question, and tell him he`s not needed, and do the same for any of the players who backed him, that I think I can replace from my shortlist.
All quiet for a week, and then....
"Player 2 would like to discuss a new contract, as he feel`s he deserves a new one"
Oh FFS ! You as well ?!
Rinse and repeat all the above, until you end up getting shot of a large number of players, who appear to be troublemakers.
Click continue...
Team A has made an offer for one of my players, and Team A are relegation candidates, and inferior to my team. I reject the offer.
Player then comes barging through the door !
"Why did you reject that offer for me ! It would have been a dream move for me, and you`re ruining my career !"
Eh ? But they`re garbage !? You`re a regular starter for a team that has just won a promotion, and is going places !
"Nothing you can say will make me change my mind, if they make another other, I expect you to accept it.
How about no ?
"How dare you ! I`m offended ! I can`t believe you`re sabotaging my career like this ! Wait until I tell the lads about it !"
Click continue...
7 players demand to know why I rejected the offer for the player, and that I`m standing in the way of his career.
Sigh....I give up, and I reach a point where I`m tired of the petulant children, and abandon the save.
Player demands, and complaining has been an issue in the game for a LONG time, and just ruins saves.

There is, off the pitch, where they can dislike each other, and form social groups etc, and some will be happy with some players, but think it best if others leave the club. So they`ve advanced that aspect of the game, but it`s too overpowered, as I wrote above. If they could have it, so that players would not pass to someone as their hatred was so great, that would be quite epic !
