I know it is cheating but you have to buy the in-game editor just so you can press the players happiness button or by Xmas half the team want to leave or you have to give them 500k a week wages, it is stupidity tbh. I got 2023 for £6 or I would still be playing 2020 and I only got that as a present tbh ornid be on 2017 I`ve often wondered, and I know many on their offical forums have as well, but they seem to push the purchase of this editor, every time someone complains about an issue in the game, that they haven`t fixed in years. And that it went up £3 this year as well, makes me think they make too much money out of it, so leave things in for it to be needed to fix. But player whinging is SO OTT, and has been for far too long, and I don`t hold out hope they`ll have it balanced in the 2025 game either. If you have ever wondered how the game keeps certain clubs relevant then go in your editior and and look at the list of Man Utd sponors and then go and look at some of the other top teams in the PL, they will not go bankrupt that's for sure lol When you used to buy a hard copy the editor came in the program, then when it went to steam, you had to download it but it is still free but then you could buy an extra editor that allowed you to edit some things during your saved game, now the new editor that you can buy for £6 enables you to do more editing than previously inhouse on saved games. I used to use the editor to make all the current transfers correct as FM only comes out in November and by then it was out of date already and I am tinkering about with the strip editor atm, made the fruit salad (as close as I can get anyway) and my own dream home shirt, blue shirt with a white and red strip going down the right breast, a play on the 80's shirt

Sad enough to play the game at all... But to design your own kits is out of the park on the sadness scale. Fair play to you.

Footballer Of The Year is in my top five favourite Spectrum Games, I cannot recall the amount of hours me and my mates played on this - taking turns with the goal cards (you had to buy or win these goal cards and each game you could use one to have one to three chances at goal, you could sit it out if you only had one chance in the next game say) it was brilliant fun and you could even transfer abroad. The second game in this series I really enjoyed but not as much, although it was clever - before the game there was a chalk board telling you where to make your run or where to be when the ball was crossed to you for you to take your chance on goal. Haven`t played it in decades, but still remember when I finally won FOTY, and even now, I can see in my head, the screen flashing, and the sound it made, when you won ! I remember it was unique, in that it came in one of thos cases, that opened like a book, and not the normal clear, plastic tape boxes, that most Spectrum games came in. And getting 3 goal cards in a game, was great fun ! HATED the penalty one, as the keeper would just jump up, and catch it ! But the one where the ball was moving was great. If you rolled it left or right, and then hit shoot, right as it got to the penalty spot, you`d score every time, as it would go in the far corner, where the keeper couldn`t reach it ! We had to find our own cheats back then, if they weren`t in one of the monthly magazines, or no-one at school knew of one, then discovering something in game, to make it better, was a joyous moment. Ah....things often were much better before the dark times....before the internet. I remember clearly buying it on Christmas Eve 1986, not sure on the price though, £6.95/£7.95 probably, I had Christmas money upfront to go and buy a game I wanted and this was the game. Played it to bits, and as you mentioned it had a bigger box than normal.. Generally you would be a bit hacked off as in the January sales my mate pointed it out to me in WH Smiths and it was half price but I had been playing it non stop, the enjoyment I got out of that game over Christmas at a relatives house I can still remember, it was worth double the price.

Just started FM19 that I bought ages ago, first thing I've done is get shot of Holdsworth, cost £22k for him to go (mutual consent), if only the 3 amigos had £22k back in 2018.

I think Holdsworth was STILL there, when I just took over in 2038, will have to go back and check. Meanwhile, Gav didn`t let being booted out by me, set him back. No, he`s somehow wangled an even better job !

Also the individual TV deal for Real Madrid & Barcelona, last time I looked they were SILLY money and I took them out. What I do now, is saddle the teams I don`t like, and want out of the league, with huge debts. So forest green, get wrecked, and greasy vince, the child worrier, is made 90 years old, so he disappears from the game in the first season. The in-game editor was £4 last year, but they bumped it up to £6-7 this year, an utter cash grab, and shameless from them, given the issues you need to fix. Changing the shirts, is proper dedication ! I do remember doing this on a much earlier version, but now I just go into steam, and the workshop tab. In there, you`ll find masses of free stuff to download, and add into the game, and this is for every version. Logos/Kits/Lower leagues added etc, it`s all there, to give you so many options, outside of the base game.

When I first played Super Kick Off on the Megadrive I quickly played with changing strips for a laugh but you soon get bored of it.
What a pig of a game that was, me and all my mates jumped on it on release and it cost forty five quid - the players actually repelled the ball in the game and sent it in silly directions making a flowing game neigh on impossible.
One of the cheapest games that you can pick up these days and I wonder why.
Some Megadrive games go for a fortune these days, far more than their original price - goes for all things retro though I guess including Amiga.

Isn’t the next FM the one that’s is undergoing massive changes? Yes, they`re moving it onto something called the "Unity" platform, so it could look, and (hopefully) play, MUCH better, next year. Not entirely sure what this entails, but anything that can actually move the game forward, and doesn`t rely on earrings, and face paint for managers, as an exciting new feature, has to be a good thing.....I think ?!

I`ve never spent more than £30 on any game, and that was only an early CM/FM game, I bought on release. Wasn`t the Megadrive over 20 years ago now ? Madness, that games cost that much, and that a top title now, is at LEAST that ! Could never get on with any games that meant controlling players movements, so I never got on with Sensible Soccer, which is much reverred. I`ve been checking Amiga bundles, and job lots on ebay over the years, as I`ve a load of it to sell, and some of the prices are incredible ! And this is often, for the actual Amiga, untested, and not even working, people will pay good money for them, and bundles of games.

New games don't seem to be games though, more like elaborate films that play out in front of you requiring a little bit of interaction from the player, they aren't even graphics any more but real life action.
Currently I like things that I can pick up and play for a bit then move onto something else, even a game that you can play for a while then save it.
These days it is more looking back for me for things that I missed, same with music, extremely little new music is great anymore so you have the time to listen to stuff that you overlooked at the time.

Have any of you tried any Spectrum/Amiga Emulators for a nostalgic go on the old games?
I'm sure there was a site with hundreds of each game for each platform. One was called World of Games IIRC.
