I could swear I’ve seen Carlisle United lift more than one trophy with Simpson as manager.

How is it "distorting history" to point out Simpson has relegated us twice and is our worst ever manager at tier three level? Facts are facts. Your claim that he is not our most successful manager in my lifetime is distorting history. Name me another manager to achieve three promotions with CUFC, other than Alan Ashman...

How is it "distorting history" to point out Simpson has relegated us twice and is our worst ever manager at tier three level? Facts are facts. It is distorting history as you list every other manager's success but list Simpson's failures and nowhere do you mention the 3 promotions, how disingenuous can you get? Was Mervyn Day manager in your lifetime? Was Mick Wadsworth manager in your lifetime? Was John Ward manager in your lifetime? Was Neil McDonald manager in your lifetime? Day & Wadsworth - trophies and promotions, no relegations. Ward & McDonald kept us in tier three. Even Greggy has a trophy and better record than Simpson in tier three. Simpson - two relegations, abysmal failure at tier three level. One trophy, 18 years ago or whenever it was. More successful than any other manager in your lifetime? Laughable.

Alf gets the point, for a change. Give yourself a Blue Peter badge, Alf. You can't ignore the negatives.

I'll take that as a concession that you can't name a single CUFC manager in history (let alone in my lifetime) with more promotions than Paul Simpson. I've never ignored the negatives. Made my case on here and on BBCRC based on those negatives. But unlike you, I don't ignore the positives either.

That's not a genuine trophy. It's not classed as an "honour'.

My point is you can only rank Simpson as the "most successful" manager in your lifetime if you ignore the negatives. So to make the point, I ignored the positives. And you called this "distorting history". One rule to ring them all.

Being successful in promotion playoffs doesn't constitute winning a trophy. Several teams finish above you in the league. You can tattoo the word "antelope" on your Grandma, but it doesn't mean she's going to be roaming through the savannah being occasionally chased by lions.
