Assuming Poppins is Simpson… I suspected he wasn’t telling the truth as soon as I heard the interview. What were his motives? Lowering fan expectations? Playing it down so that agents don’t try and take the piss. I’m sure he had his reasons, but he’ll have to get up earlier than that to fool me. Just weird if you ask me. Like he doesn't want the responsibility of been a favourite? I think unfortunately Simmo’s head is scrambled at the moment and I believe he has also admitted, this has been his most difficult season in professional football since 1982, but it is very clear that he has Tom and the families full support, so hopefully a decent break in the Summer and Simmo can reset and be fully energised for the season ahead, but I am also sure he fully realises he will have to deliver,..COYB!

Every time I've heard the Piataks speak to the media I've come away impressed. I cannot believe that they are happy with how the season has degenerated since their takeover. Simmo is a very lucky man to still be receiving their support. If his summer recruits don't start the season well surely their patience will run out.

Yes, agreed and I would expect if we are not in the playoffs after the first 12 games of the season they will take decisive action.

You could just sense that Tom wasn't happy with what's gone on. Admitting that the internal targets where not met surely means he's in last chance saloon, anything from now is firmly on Tom Piatak's watch, and I didn't get the impression he will tolerate any more failure.

Simpson also said that this will be the first time as Carlisle manager that he hasn’t had to work with a bottom 3 or 4 budget. Not a chance our 05/06 title winning squad was on a bottom 3 or 4 budget with the likes of Bridges, Lummy, Adam Murray, Aranalde etc. no chance! Wasn’t Brookes mileson picking up a few players wages back then?

Not sure about 05-06 but I’m sure Lummy has said it was a bottom four budget when we missed out on promotion from league one under Ward. Which doesn’t say much for their efforts this season.

Average budget in L2 this season for wages, according to the daily mirror £58k a week. Wrexham nearly double that Budget for next season is £70k a week apparently.

We were talking about this on Saturday night, how many games we would give him? You’re not going to give a manager best part of a million quid (fees and wages) then sack him after 4-6 games. Guessing that there’s going to be 7-8 new first XI starting the season you’re going to struggle to get them all gelling straight away. But if you give him 12 games and we’re struggling, that’s over a quarter of the season gone and by the time a new man is appointed and gets himself settled in, the catch-up job could be too much. We came to the conclusion, unanimously, that he needs to go now and let someone else plan, recruit and see the job through.

Suppose it depends on how patient Tom will be. Very impressed with his interview. Don't think he will be messed with. Watch your back Simmo!

There’s also the question of how confident are the Piatak’s making such an important footballing decision like appointing a new manager should the time come? Who’s advising them on football matters? Simpson appears to be one of their main advisors so with him gone, Nixon (hopefully) gone, who’s left with any football knowledge to recommend and earmark a new manager? Clibbens?

Why don't you offer your services? You're so "in the know" you seem to be a proper expert on everything. "SallyFrankStanderMackem - Know it all consultants" What could possibly go wrong? Byron Webster as manager incoming, Sunderland birthday cakes all round.

They've already said he'll be here next season, they strike me as people who make a decision, then see it through. I reckon 30/9 will be a big day. One month after the transfer window closes. Then he's had time to spend their money. I would think they already have, or are gathering information, on a potential replacement. You don't build a fortune worth 10s of millions without putting time and effort in. They're no daft, they'll be ready for all options

I have to say after watching that interview with Tom, I'm starting to feel a hell of a lot more positive. I felt very low on Saturday, people talking about low budgets and a team that makes the Keystone Cops look like an efficient well drilled unit. Simpson in or Simpson out? Well whether you think the former or the latter, he's going to be our boss at least for the start of next season anyhow. So we might as well get Saturday out of the way put our feelings to one side for the time being and start looking forward to next season. 100% Without doubt we have the right people running our beloved club. Not excusing the poor recruitment in January , but presumably it’s a lot easier to recruit over the summer, so reasonable hope that we will make a better fist of it. Would be great if we could get shot of a couple of the duff signings, but I don’t suppose their will be a long queue of clubs rushing to sign them.
