A bank holiday weekend and good weather, in such circumstances if me `n` Mrs YB fancy a hillwalk we usually give the Lake District a miss and head for the North Pennines, today was Cross Fell from Kirkland. A beautiful day and only a few fellow walkers about, but met quite a few hill runners doing a Pennine Adventure race, some were doing the 52 mile run and some a 112 mile run, yer have to tek yer woolly hat off to `em, tough types. Some summit cairn, someone spent a lot of time and care building that.

I haven't ventured that far away from Lakeland but Cross Fell is definitely on the list sometime.

You won't be catching me going up Sharp Edge even if it hadn't seen rainfall for five years. Just not for me, it's probably the hardest route up any fell in the Lakes.

Aye, agree Wukkie, the aim of a day on the hill is to enjoy some fresh air and exercise and with luck a good view.

Sharp Edge is an exhilarating experience, all be it a short one. Like to follow it up with a descent of Halls Fell ridge, gives it a proper mountain feel - a bit like a tour of the edges on Helvellyn. Looks like you had a cracking day for it, Yorkie!

Seathwaite Fell starting from just outside the Farm. I did set out to do more but on walking towards Sprinkling Tarn the weather clouded right in which included rain, hail and a bit of snow so I opted for safety and headed down Grains Gill and back to the car. Sod's law was that by the time I got back down the Sun had broken out again. Seathwaite Fell Not a bad view for my dinner! A view of Great and Green Gable Looking towards Great End

Looking towards Great End at the foot of Esk Pike Looking to Allen Crags and Glaramara from Esk Pike Summit The Sca Fell Massif from Esk Pike. Great Langdale from just before the Great Slab on Bowfell with Windermere coming into view on the right.

A straightforward couple of hours out on Sunday morning from Braithwaite onto Barrow returning by way of Stile End. I tend to do these fairly short hops over summer, my least favourite hillwalking season, it`s often warm and humid which saps strength and, depending where the hillwalk is, you can feel you`re a mobile feeding station for midges, clegs and ticks, so late Autumn, Winter and early Spring are dead cert favourite seasons.

I've done a few walks after the ones posted. I did Grasmoor for the umpteenth time only from Lad Hows for the first time and descended Whiteless Pike. Great End - Ill Crag - Broad Crag - Sca Fell Pike - Lingmell Fairfield Horseshoe Middle Dodd - Red Screes - Raven Crag - Snarker Pike High Stile range
Then I got a Thigh Strain and haven't been out apart from a tootle up Sale Fell last week and now my back's started after some heavy lifting FFS so that put a break on my other walks I had planned.
