If possible I like to try alternative routes up our beautiful fells, the route me `n` Mrs YB did yesterday is a little beaut, on the map it looks a bit of a beast but once the grassy gully is located about 500 metres past the hut it gives a safe route between the crags onto the ridge.

I'll have to give that one a go Yorkie. I like mixing the routes. Yesterday we did Gable from Honister but normally do it from Seathwaite.

Morning Soul, I find the easiest way to post a picture is :- Go onto the Postimage.org website. Click on the "Choose Image" button - this will prompt you to select a photo / image from files on your pc or camera. Open the photo you wish to post. The photo will upload and a number of options will be given on the web page. Click on "Hotlink For Forums" the choice will be highlighted. Click R/H button on your mouse - on the options click on "Copy" Then go to your "The Buzz Is Back" topic Get the cursor positioned where you want the photo - and click "Paste" You`ll just see a line of text that you copied, but when you press the Create Post button your photo will appear. It seems a long line of instructions, but not so bad when you`ve tried it a few times - Good luck.

As a PS to the previous post, any photos I intend to insert into a post I`ll edit down to a file size of about 1Mb. I think there`s also a possible more straightforward way of putting a photo into a post using the "Add Attachment" but never used that yet.

Had a decent day out on hills yesterday with our lass, didn`t get any photos, forgot to charge my phone before setting off, so thought better save what capacity it had in case of emergency. The weather wasn`t that brilliant anyway. Had an early start from the Patterdale Hotel car park, and at that stage the morning, though still dark, showed promise. The sky began clouding up as we made progress up Grizedale and by the time we reached the mountain hut at Ruthwaite light rain showers were falling which gradually turned to sleet and then snow as we ascended the Tongue Ridge toward the top of Dollywagon Pike, a straightforward tramp over Nethermost Pike led on to Helvellyn, though the light snow showers made the track a bit slippy at times, thank heaven for microspikes. A careful descent of Swirral Edge led past Red Tarn then down to Grizedale and back to the car at Patterdale. Decided to have a post walk drink at the Horse and Farrier - Threlkeld, a favourite watering hole, and home in time to enjoy? the match on RC. No pics - but a plan of the route . Arguably my favourite route up Helvellyn this one, fantastic views back down Grisedale from the Tongue on a nice day. Has a proper mountain feel about it too, once you're off the Grisedale highway. It also has the benefit of missing out those arduous switchbacks from Grisedale Tarn up onto Dollywagon!

I quite enjoy the walk up Nethermost Pike too Moonie, crossing the Grisedale Beck and skirting round the North side of Eagle Crag then turning up onto the East ridge of Nethermost Pike to the summit. I think it might`ve been Wainwright, in his Eastern Fells book, describing the ridge as a miniature Striding Edge.

I think it might`ve been Wainwright, in his Eastern Fells book, describing the ridge as a miniature Striding Edge. Both routes are a good way to escape the maddening crowds on Striding Edge. There were a group of lads in the mini market at Glenridding at around 12:30. They were asking where the path to Helvellyn started. The lads on the counter told them not to be daft, the weather out here is grim today and they didn't have enough daylight anyways. They insisted they were going to do it. That'll be a callout for PMRT in an hour or so... One ridge I've not yet knocked off is Gatesgill on Blencathra - described by Wainright in similar terms to the East Ridge of Nethermost.

Aye, that`s a decent way up Blencathra pal, it`s a bit of a slog up to the rocky outcrop, which if the mood takes you can give you a short but entertaining scramble, then a pleasant ridge to Gategill Fell top, a bit like the alternative ridges of the Helvellyn range, it`ll give you a quiet route up Blencathra.

I've been up Blencathra many times but funnily enough never got round to doing that one as I usually ascend by Halls Fell or Scales. I'll put it on my to do list for 2024.

I'm hoping to get out somewhere next week, been stuck in for far too long apart from one jaunt up Stone Arthur.
Fingers crossed this weather calms down. If I ever do the Striding Edge/Swirral I'll be doing it when it's dry.

That way you stand a chance of getting it to yourself.

Thanks for that Yorkie Seems bloody longwinded to me but i guess the fact there isnt just a button called post picture which would take you to your stored pics where you just click on open on the one you want to post and hey presto youve done it is down to them not really wanting a picture on every post which i.m pretty sure would slow down the site intolerably. But there are sites that i use [ Fetlife for instance ] that store millions and millions of pics yet the speed of the site isnt affected in any way so its a bit of a strange one to me.

I think there is ? If you choose add attachment, it lets you upload the pic you choose. The downside to this, is that there`s a 1mb limit, so you might need to edit any pics, to get them to this size. Not sure how to open a pic, and then edit it down to size, anyone know how to do this in windows ?
