After roaring, shouting, and jumping up and down with 4,406 fellow blues on Saturday, Sunday needed to be a day of calm. The Coledale round then, Grizedale Pike, Hopegill Head, Eel Crags, Sail, Outerside and Stile End, finishing off appropriately in the beer garden at the Coledale Inn, sat in the warm Autumn sunshine.

After last weeks exciting win over Bolton, I needed the hillwalk on Sunday to wind down, This week after the unexciting defeat against Orient I needed the hillwalk to wind up, good old hills, therapy for both ends of the Carlisle United rollercoaster emotion spectrum. Today`s offering was a round from Gatesgarth at the foot of Honister Pass, over Fleetwith Pike then on to Haystacks returning by the Scarth Gap track. Brilliant weather with a post walk pint in the Swinside Inn. Buttermere from the lower slopes of Fleetwith Pike. A view of Pillar looking over Innominate Tarn on Haystacks. View from the summit of Haystacks.

A weekend up in Glen Nevis, a great walk on the Saturday - from the Glen Nevis Hostel, initially up the Ben Nevis tourist path, leaving the Ben Nevis bound hordes behind at the Lochan Meall an t Suidhe we carried on round into Coire Leis on the path to the Charles Inglis Clark Mountain Hut then turned eastward up the steep slopes to the top of Carn Mor Dearg. Only one photo taken, as pretty much after that was taken we were into mist, then snow showers, cheers storm Babet. On return to the hostel kept an eye on the Flashscore coming in from Fratton Park, bugger, then later the other eye on the score coming in from the rugby, double bugger, both undone by late scores. Looking down Glen Nevis from the lower slopes of Ben Nevis.

Lack of visibility is the problem with higher peaks like Ben Nevis and Snowdon. On the plus side it can make for an atmospheric walk. Good to see some snow on the tops. I wonder when we'll start to see any on the Lakeland fells.

Good photos Wukkie, love to see those crepuscular rays breaking through the clouds, adds atmosphere to a photo.

There wasn't much to take photos of as if I turned the other way the ridge was covered in clag. I haven't had any setbacks so hopefully (fingers crossed) I'm up and running again.

Had a decent day out on hills yesterday with our lass, didn`t get any photos, forgot to charge my phone before setting off, so thought better save what capacity it had in case of emergency. The weather wasn`t that brilliant anyway. Had an early start from the Patterdale Hotel car park, and at that stage the morning, though still dark, showed promise. The sky began clouding up as we made progress up Grizedale and by the time we reached the mountain hut at Ruthwaite light rain showers were falling which gradually turned to sleet and then snow as we ascended the Tongue Ridge toward the top of Dollywagon Pike, a straightforward tramp over Nethermost Pike led on to Helvellyn, though the light snow showers made the track a bit slippy at times, thank heaven for microspikes. A careful descent of Swirral Edge led past Red Tarn then down to Grizedale and back to the car at Patterdale. Decided to have a post walk drink at the Horse and Farrier - Threlkeld, a favourite watering hole, and home in time to enjoy? the match on RC. No pics - but a plan of the route . Attachments:

Interesting route up Helvellyn Yorkie. I've always done the Hole In The Wall and Striding Edge from that starting point. It was a bit slippy on Gable yesterday but not enough snow to justify micro spikes. It was a bit misty on top so I didn't bother with photos either.
