What about Scotland? Erling who?? Good result for them especially when they went there for a 0-0. I don't think the Georgia match will be any picnic either as they must be one of the most improved teams around in the last 12-18 months. I wouldn't be surprised if Georgia nicked it 2-1.

dstander, my comment regarding Messi relates to the usual myopic and jingoistic comments from pundits and journalists who were making out TAA was a world class midfielder/number 10 because of one pass he made to Saka. As for your comment that no-one wanted to play in that game, they are representing their country and they all knew these 2 fixtures were in the calendar well in advance, therefore their season was/is not finished. Southgate should have been sacked months or indeed years ago due to his continual negative tactics and team selections both of which were well to the fore on Friday against non league standard opposition.
Lets see how many passes go astray in tonights match between Croatia and Spain - I presume nobody will be wanting to play in this either!

Sacking one of the country’s best ever managers makes a lot of sense! He got the game won inside half an hour on Friday and played out the rest of the game with the minimum of fuss or effort, perfect outcome in all honesty. One pundit - Tony bloody Cascarino - made a ridiculous statement about TAA and Messi and folk think that constitutes the whole punditry and journalistic professions as a whole, don’t be daft man! We could have the group virtually won by tomorrow night, at the half way stage, yet folk still want Southgate sacked. It’s laughable.

A manager of one of our best ever squad of players would be nearer the truth. And if he had been 'one of our best ever managers' we would have won the Euros in 2020 when it was almost handed to us on a plate and possibly even the World Cup in either 2018 or 2022. Yes we did ok, but with a more positive mindset and team selection we could have gone further.

Yes we did ok, but with a more positive mindset and team selection we could have gone further. So now you’re arguing that he’s not one of our best ever managers even though his record proves otherwise Up until this season when the likes of Grealish and Stones have emerged as genuine world class players, you could only really class Kane, an emerging Bellingham and perhaps Foden as players who would feature in some of England’s best ever squads. The team who couldn’t even get to the Final in 96 and the squad who didn’t get past the quarters in 2004 were streets ahead of this current squad. For someone who’s accusing others of listening to media hype you appear to have done it yourself by believing this is some sort of golden generation. Not even close to being one of our best ever squads.

Just like against Malta - it isn't a penalty. Foul is outside the box.

Much better tonight, against better opposition too. Against Malta everything was slow, Trippier and Shaw among others hardly played a forward pass and we didn't get enough bodies into and around the opposition box. Tonight we played quicker, got the ball to the wide players earlier and were just generally much more positive. Macedonia just couldn't handle Rashford and Saka who were both superb. We are so much better when the handbrake is released and we play in a positive manner, as this suits the type of players we have at our disposal. Unfortunately when the pressure is on history tells us Southgate reverts to type and plays far too conservatively, worrying about the opposition instead of imposing ourselves on them - that is the problem I have with Southgate.
