The goalkeeping situation is a bit of a mess. We have Holy under contract, an Icelandic keeper on loan possibly to the end of the season. We tried to sign a Scottish keeper but it turned out we couldn’t sign him. I’m sure he would have played ahead of Breeze if we’d signed him. Only as a last resort does Breeze get a chance. Carlisle City have a very promising young keeper (Simons)who I think we would be trying to sign if we hadn’t ditched him last summer. Would our season have been any worse with Breeze and Simons as our two keepers? No

Sorry , but I disagree He doesn't look anywhere near to me.And Holy would be ahead of him for me. But Holy is not good enough for 1st choice .

I think Breeze is doing a great job given the circumstances. He's been thrown into a struggling team after a string of errors from our other GKs, so there's always gonna be extra pressure on him not to make a mistake. I think he's shown himself to be a promising, capable GK for the future. I think he's pushing too many shots back into a dangerous area though. His development will have gone through the roof in recent weeks because of his first team appearances. I don't think he's ready to be a League 1 starter at the minute but i'd take him over Holy and Andresson at the minute. We need to sign a no1 similar to when we brought Howard in a few seasons back. Breeze needs to be out on loan playing week in week out. But I think League 1 is a step too far at the minute.

Agree with this, he's exceeded my expectations of him, and hasn't really been at fault for the goals he's conceded. I'm just a bit concerned that his confidence may take a knock when an error does come (an error will come, it's inevitable for keepers at this level). I'd like to see him loaned out to a national league side for the rest of the season, but first we need a new keeper.

It’s really difficult to get goalkeepers out on loan. Premier League and Championship teams have a ridiculous number of young goalkeepers who will always get priority. Much more difficult than arranging loans for outfield players. Teams happy with their goalkeeper don’t want to bring in an on loan keeper. The crazy thing is that we could end up sending Breeze out on loan and paying the wages of 3 goalkeepers, who I’m sure will be paid a lot more than Breeze.

(Apologies, just seen this specific thread. Posted what's written below on the Exeter game thread.) Mrs WLYC and Nipples watched the highlights early this morning on a large 4K screen and both commented that Breeze looked a bit mentally slow from what was shown. He's obviously young, still with a lot to learn, but it did look like a more experienced goalie might have stood a chance of stopping one of Exeter's goals.

I’m not interested in your 4k screen but my impression of Breeze over 4 games is that he is very alert mentally. Why use such derogatory language aimed at one of our own young players.

I thought Breeze was very good yesterday and has done really well since coming into the side. He made an excellent double save around 50mins to keep it level.
Their first goal is a clear strike from around the penalty spot - don't think you can expect a keeper to save that. Gibson didnt track the runner. The second goal is an open goal tap in, after Breeze has tried to make the save from the first shot that hits the post. Again - think its a bit harsh to be expecting a keeper to get up and save from such close range.

First, it wasn't "our" 4K large screen as we're away working at the moment. I mentioned it only to emphasise that they has a detailed and top quality picture to watch. Mrs WLYC and Nipples weren't in anyway being "derogatory". It was their considered opinions (and both absolutely know psychology), albeit based on extremely brief highlights. They've also been Carlisle fans for a long time. Both are fully in favour of youngsters being given a chance, if/when ready. This IS a messageboard for differing opinions and the Ladies are not the only fans to question Breeze's current capability.

Well for me having a keeper who doesn't frighten the living daylights out of me is an absolute novelty this season. Pretty sure the defence and Simmo would agree. Not saying he the finished article or is our future long term number 1 but he has given us composure, something that Holy and Andresson didn't. So until a keeper is signed who can maintain that calmness and can add some experience and other required skills for a keeper, im comfortable with Gabe keeping the gloves.

bigboblee: You don't want to know the reactions to your comments from Mrs WLYC and Nipples. What is repeatable is Nipples saying you should know the difference between "mentally slow" (think "reaction time") and "mentally sub-normal".

Ross Stewart (Our Trialist Scottish Keeper) has now signed for Partick for the Season (Not sure if been mentioned on here yet, and can’t be bothered looking!)…

Be interested to know which goal an experienced Keeper would have done better with, both goals were as a result of players not reacting and following the ball, neither goal was Breeze's fault and I reckon most experienced Keeper's would have struggled with either of them. With regards to the mentally slow comment, goalkeeper's who are mentally slow don't make double saves and he seems to be making a habit of making great double saves, he might be a little off the pace of the League whilst he adjusts but that will come the more he plays games that matter rather than meaningless slower reserve and youth football

It looked like we did have better lined up but seems to be going elsewhere, so imagine we're now moving onto the next target
