A well earned MoM today, had a good battle with their number 12 and took his goal well.

I thought Ikpeazu bossed him for the majority but by the size of him he can probabaly boss whoever he wants.

Fans favourite?
“Big Jon” is becoming a big problem that we can’t carry at this level. Can’t question his desire and he always gives his all, but this whole hearted full blooded shit house “Big Jon” personna masks the fact he really isn’t very good, as shown by his man of the match award last week. There are a lot of complaints about our style, but when we have a defender who struggles to control the ball, constantly loses the ball and often passes straight to opposition, it’s little wonder we’re consistently having no more than 30% possession. I believe that having a player with such low technical qualities rubs off on other defenders, they end up launching it because they know if there’s nothing on in front of them they can’t use the option of passing sideways to Mellish as it would be like handing someone a hot potato. And as well as that he isn’t actually that good a defender. Then there’s the midfield thing, he’s even worse there, he’s in there purely because he has an engine and can run and smash into people. Not his fault he’s being asked to play there but if he wasn’t around then there’d be no temptation there. Beech did, Skelton did, Millen did and Simpson does. He’s dire there. Remove the player, remove the temptation and the problem.
He’s one we should be looking to offload whatever league we’re in if we’re looking to improve.

Same
I like Mellish, we are going down so can do a job in league two as there isn’t much quality there. Effort top notch but quality wise very poor.

Play him as a CB, have his responsibilities to kick and head the ball away from our goal and to tackle the other teams players. I recon he would do a hell of a lot better than he's doing now, poor lad hasn't a ******* clue what he's supposed to be doing.

And in two sentences you show more common sense and tactical awareness than our entire coaching department have shown all season.

To be a good defender at any level you need certain attributes which Jon Mellish simply doesnt have.
These include, awareness, positioning, leadership and the ability to communicate with teammates.
The one attribute he does have is physicality and that has been enough to get him where he is today.
Unfortunately, as even Lummy acknowledged this afternoon, that is not enough in Division One.

How many teams in League One would Mellish get into? The answer tells us everything.

How many teams in League One would Mellish get into? The answer tells us everything. According to rumours, Stockport are interested in him, so if that was true then 1, I'm also sure he would have gotten into any of these teams Cheltenham, Port Vale, Burton, Fleetwood, Northampton, C ambridge. Granted most of thse are really L2 standard teams, how Northampton are 12th is beyond me, awful team, as are the rest named.
