He tries hard and runs about a lot, but there is very little skill there. Hence the reason he's good for League 2, but when skill levels ramp up in League 1 and above he is a bit lost, in my opinion. Just play him in the back three and have him as the overlapping CB, leave the other two CBs back all the time, seems to be when he works best. Never a midfielder, other than he has an "engine" on him. And the ability to score goals Such an odd player in that respect. That 16 goal season feels so far away, and he's at CB now so unlikely to recreate it. Feels like there's something we could get out of him there.

I agree the Peterborough commentators spent the entire game waxjng lyrically about him, they talked about how they rarely seen a player physically match one of their players who Mellish was dominating. Also then his finishes were like a striker, the 2nd and 3rd goals don't get scored by a player with poor technical ability and boy all accounts at the club he's not a bad technical footballer, I've noticed one thing compared to others in the team is he always puts back spin on a forward pass , any one who's played even a bit of football know that's not easy and why it helps going forward

The problem is he's equally adept at misjudging tackles , running the ball out of play , skewing easy crosses ,shanking easy shots into the stand , running out of steam into dead ends. I do like him and on his day he's unplayable...but his days aren't very often. He's an enigma , how do you get the best out of him and his attributes for the rest of the team while negating the impact of his flaws. I genuinely think it would be easier not to have him. But then we'd miss out on "those days".

Ironically I think this has taken away from his game , Mellish is at his best when he's being annoying ,he doesn't do that now.

He'll be back to it in L2. Mark my words. I love the man too much to lose faith. I wanna see him back to this: Also I can't remember the game but when we scored and instead of running to the fans, ran over to their CB and said something to the effect of 'You're s***' right in his face

I'd make him captain next season. Love big Jon, but he’s not a captain. Just leave him as he is. Need to sign a new leader. Big bastard of a centre half or centre mid.

I can't understand how his first touch goes 3-5 yards away after being a professional footballer for five years. If other clubs thought much of him he'll have been sold three years ago.
Having said that he's one of a few who actually gives a shit.
