One thing the modern keeper couldn't compete with is in the Ross era no goalkeepers used cricket batting gloves it was mostly bare hands (sometimes wool gloves but I think that was more to keep hands warm) The second area they couldn't compete is coming out and catching crosses. The modern keeper doesn't appear to do that it's like ice hockey coaches coach them to stay on their line... The one area where keepers benefited in Ross's day as opposed to modern keepers is the flight of the ball. In those days the balls were heavier and didn't bend in flight, that's why a lot of modern keepers choose to punch and not catch. Agree with earlier comments on Tom Clarke, he didn't get many chances because of Ross but, he was a very capable understudy.

Good Point but in a way they had to be braver when they came for a cross as they were less well protected I remember going to a friendly so long ago can’t remember exactly where and it was Tom Clarke in goal and not Ross. Might well have been at Palmerston v QOS and I was right behind the goals and he wasn’t exactly the tallest of goalkeepers if I recollect. Also in the old Div 1 season not sure how he got game practice as we had no reserve team and I think the squad size was only around 16.

I'm still not convinced Tom Clarke was any good. I remember a little bald fella and he didn't have a career apart from a few games for Carlisle.

Seen on his Instagram suggesting he's moving he'll always be remembered for his penalty save will he go on to brighter things I suppose only time will tell as someone who travelled the globe extensively in my career and in my dj'ing days I can tell you moving can be daunting but things can work out in the end

He's a better goalkeeper than Lewis.

He's a better goalkeeper than Lewis. He's really not, give Lewis a defence in front of him like Holy had last year and he'd show he is a far better Keeper. Lewis has made the odd mistake since he came in but none that have actually cost us points, Holy and the clown from Reading both cost us games and critical points. Lewis on the other hand has actually kept games far tighter that they might otherwise have been Good luck to Thomas and hope he gets sorted out quickly, great memories from last season and in time will be remembered for the Wembley saves not the calamity he was in League 1

He always came across as loving the club and the fans and unlike some of our other out of favour players didn't misbehave. His form this season got worse so it was no surprise when he was dropped. That said, Lewis hasn't shown anything to suggest that he is any better. I'll remember Holy for his promotion season and Wembley heroics. Thanks Tomas and good luck.

I'll miss him. He'd be an asset going into next year, but fair play to him wanting to be first choice somewhere. No worse than Lewis, but unfortunately we didn't overspend to get him, so ended up being dropped to justify a poor signing. Shame how it ended, but anyone at Wembley will never forget that save!!!

Jury still out on Lewis for me. Thought he did very well coming off his line to make a tackle against Derby, don't think any of the other keepers this season would have done that. Crosses is where he frightens me, hopefully a good coach will come in this summer and work with him on that. However having a couple of decent CBs in front who can deal better with those 1st and 2nd balls will take a lot of that responsibility away.

Playing behind the same defence this season.
Holy - Played 17, Conceded 26.
Lewis - Played 20, Conceded 43.
Absolutely no doubt who is the better keeper.

On the evidence put before us I'd take Holy over Lewis all day long.
Thanks for the memories Tomas.

Holy was a poor keeper, little confidence and poor agility - he actually failed the agility test on signing! The big mistake wasn’t dropping him, it was failing to replace him with anything better.

God forbid a player fails an agility test and then goes on to break our clean sheet record. Holy has his flaws with every other keeper at this level and league one, his strengths are much more suited to League Two where it’s a lot more reliant on set pieces and crosses into the box, much more suited to it than Lewis anyways, he deserves to go somewhere to be first choice and we need a keeper coach in that needs to drill it into Lewis that he’s capable of coming for crosses or it’s going to be a repeat of this season with regards to our defending on set pieces.
