Saw a kid (Amaru Smith) from out West had signed a deal until he was 18, whilst in Year 10 - A year ahead of usual signing whilst in Year 11.
Assuming this kid is decent (Scored for U15’s at BP the other week) and others may have been circling for us to act early?

I think he was spotted in the under15’s thread as the scorer of the first goal. The under 15’s have done very well in the Floodlit Cup which draws attention to our players so makes sense to get them signed up. When you say he is from out west where do you mean? Lowca, Flimby, Silloth, Galway, San Diego???

Apparently he's absolutely shit hot and getting him tied down now is a really good bit of business and prevents a Henderson/Trafford situation. Also a couple of lads in U14s performing very well and playing up the age groups so hopefully some talent very much in the pipeline.

Omaru Smith and Olly Penny u15 Jonah Lowes and Hayden Atkinson u16 From what I’ve heard are meant to be the real deal. Saw some of them in the youth team and they did look really good. Time will tell but the academy staff with the limited resources appear to be doing a fantastic job. Don’t forget Romeo park and the lads at Workington, absolutely flying. Hopefully the future will be bright for us.

Are these youngsters coming through the ranks, the result of the youth academy ?
The same youth academy PS had a go at recently, and the chap in charge, Friel, has left the post, and moved over to Ireland ?

Yeah I’m led to believe they have came right through the system since pretty much day one. Be nice to see some of them get some opportunities. In other clubs if you have 15 year olds excelling in u18 football, 17 year olds playing week in week out in men’s football in a tough northern league, strikers in the youth team constantly scoring and performing well there would be opportunities for them. Not too bad seeing as the majority of these lads training will of been done under candle light at caldew school and plying their trades on the carpet like surfaces as frenchfields and Creighton 😂

Then that asks the question, what was wrong with the youth academy, and why didn`t we try and keep Friel ?
If some of these players are knocking on the door of the 1st team over the coming years, and we end up with some quality youngsters, that everyone is talking about being the next big transfer, then why on earth, did we let go the man in charge, who probably had a hand in identifying them in the first place, and helping bring them through the system ?!
Maybe it doesn`t work that way, I`m not too clued up on the way academies work ! But seeing how many bright prospects we have coming through, and to be excited over, letting Friel go, seems madness to me ?!

I don’t really know myself to be fair. I have a friend who is a scout for a team covering north west and east. I’ve attended a a few u16 and youth games with him (yes I am that sad at times) and he tends to give me little snippets with me being a Carlisle fan. I do believe we have some real quality coaches throughout the academy and the youth team coaches Birch and Rudd are by all accounts brilliant. Academy managers roles will no doubt vary in different clubs. I’m my opinion I think some of the coaches have been here years throughout the academy and to have brought players like Branthwaite through, have 15/16 year olds excelling in u18 football and 17 year olds doing well in northern league football with the facilities at hand, the coaches must be doing something right. I did think what Simpson said on the back of the youth cup defeat was out of order at the time and seems quite ironic now.

It`s awesome to have you and bigboblee keeping us all updated on the youth teams, and how they`re doing, and which ones might worth looking our for, and possibly getting close to the 1st team in the coming years. Exciting times !
Also great to hear we have some quality coaches working there, what on earth could have prompted Simpson to say what he did ??
All good stuff, please keep going, both of you !

Perhaps one of the Simpson clan was after a job so a position had to be open so off Friel went.

1-0 win for the youth team against Walsall yesterday. Good to see 2 of the under 15’s (Smith and Penney) involved coming on as subs. I think they’ve both been signed up as trainees a year in advance, which makes it more difficult and costly for the Premier League vultures to poach them.
