Good luck to the lads, look forward to seeing them in the first team. Did we get a replacement for Friel?

Did we get a replacement for Friel? uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/carlisle-united-academy-manager-set-120053356.htmlIt would seem not but it hints that they will be going for somebody with a higher level, Friel is Cat3 but there was talk with the improvements of moving our academy up to CAT2 wasn't there? Simpson, slated the YA so I guess Friel was a dead man walking from that moment on, there isa link to Simpsons comments in the above link. He is still here as a Temp until we find a replacement then he is off to Shamrock Rovers, I wonder if he will tip us off about any Irish prospects but I fear he won't care for Simpson after his YA comments.

I think one of the problems is the Club has understandably had a box-ticking mentality so that we did enough to ensure the £500k a year handout arrived. Simmo makes the point that it's all very well running an efficient process but at the end of it you need to produce talent for the first team. Hopefully the Piataks can bring some fresh ideas on how we can attract the best youngsters into the Club. It's not an easy problem to fix.

The first point of call should be to stop losing Cumbrians to other teams. Not a lot you can do when they are poached from your YA but some of them never see a Carlisle YA, we need them snapped up at whatever age you can snap them up first. At least that way you can get soem compo at some point. Of course, having the better facilities in place may convince the parents we are doing everything we can for their child to succeed, football and education wise.

My friend's son ran 3 soccer schools in China for Rangers. It was a big money spinner, his boss was Mark Hately. A big player in the west of China was strangely Tranmere, they make very good money from training Chinese kids. Not sure how many players have come through to the first team though, visas will be an issue out there.

“At this moment in time I think the academy needs a bit of a shake-up, because it’s not in a good state in my opinion"
"new ideas and drive"
A proper hoof in the clems that interview was for Friel, a bad reference really - just as well he is heading for Irelands biggest club.

Some real talent in the crop of u16’s coming up to the 1st year scholars. One u16 defender has featured quite heavily with the youth team and 2 u16 midfielders are looking like fantastic talents so fingers crossed.

Our under 18s got comfortably beaten by Blackpool’s today 2-0 You fail to mention that 3 of the youth team played for Workington Reds today and one played for Carlisle City today. Branthwaite, Trafford, Henderson and White all appeared on Premier League team sheets today. Compared to Simpson/Abbott our Academy is pretty good at recruitment and the youth teams results and performances are better than the first team. Simpson’s criticism of the academy is a bit rich given his performance this season.

3-2 win for the youth team today against Rochdale, Park scored 2 and Swinburn got the other. Dudik played, I think you can play overage players or at least under 19’s. 3 of the squad played for Workington Reds today, this allowed under 16’s to be involved.

Best result of the season for youth team today, beating league leaders PNE 2-1. Park and Swinburn got the goals, Dudik played full game. 4 under 16’s on the bench, making up for the 4 we have out on loans. Tough game for the lads on loan at Borough Park later on against second place and in form Hyde.

In my humble opinion why not try out our own youth lads now the season has basically gone. We have park and Swinburn knocking in fantastic goal/assist numbers week in and out, we have 3 young lads dooming amazingly well at reds, we have 2 u16’s by all accounts performing unbelievably well for the youth team and apparently attracting a lot of interest from else where. We have 2 u15’s stepping up and not looking out of place with the u16’s and youth team. Yes I know it’s a big step but by all accounts there doesn’t seem to be any push on these young guys like there is elsewhere with other teams. Surely it’s got to be a better punt that the pathetic loans we are getting in and flogging dead horses.
