I remember a friend of mine who was on the board at the time telling me Rory Delap was so close to being released but decided to give him another year to see if he was a late developer.

I think he’s from Maryport, fairly certain he’s no relation to Paul Fitzpatrick. I did wonder if Hetherington was related to Brent. PF and BH were really special players, both could be brilliant but on a bad day looked like Sunday League players. We’ve had so many mediocre players that I enjoyed watching them because they were so unpredictable.

I hope so. Now we have the funds a b team of upcoming youth players, first teamers on the fringes, starters coming back from injury and perhaps the odd gamble like Dudik, would be a really beneficial thing to have. The old reserve team system basically.

The old reserve team system basically. Would make sense, and we would be down to every available player being in the 18 like we were on Tuesday (baring Holy).

Was our player of the season 89/90.

The last I heard about Fitzpatrick he was back in Liverpool working as a taxi driver. I thought he was our best player 89/90 season but I remember some people thought he was useless (the Kipper tie man who organised the away buses used to hate him).

He was one of those a bit like Paul Gorman who was initially unpopular for being crap, or at least poor compared to the second tier team of a couple of years previously, but won a lot of fans over with his efforts. Fiery temper, got a red card or two, but also capable of some stylish moments amongst the general dross and muddy pitches of that era. Seem to recall him not being bad at free kicks?

Funny you should mention he had a fiery temper !
He also played for forest green at some point, as I went to an FA Cup Qualifying round game, between them and Cheltenham Town, in 1995 when both were way down the football pyramid. forest green won 3-0, and it wasn`t long after that Cheltenham appointed Steve Cotterill and they are where they are now, thanks to him.
The same Steve Cotterill, who is now managing forest green ! Football can be a funny game at times !
I mention this, as when at that game, I remember being amazed at seeing Fitzpatrick playing at that level, but also at what an utter dirty turdrag he was ! There was an incident where he headbutted a Cheltenham player in the penalty box, and the ref was right there, and saw it, but waved play on. He was a big lad, and the game was over at that point, so he probably didn`t want to chance any aggro.
Whilst walking out in disgust, at being smashed by these part timers, Fitzpatrick was in the corner, up to his shenanigans, and about 6 feet away from me, so I shouted something at him, and then quickened my pace, to get back to the car. He was a big lad !

Shirt numbers already reserved for Simpson signings brought in by Abbott's broken sat nav (stuck on Yorkshire).

Usain Bolt watching the youth team today at Creighton 😳 Was anybody at the youth team game? Was it really Usain Bolt? Good win for the youth team, one of the under 16’s scored which is good. Romeo Park got the winner, shows good attitude after not being offered a contract. I saw Allan and Hetherington play for the Reds in a 2-0 defeat at Macclesfield. Allan certainly put himself about, sending one Macclesfield player into the stand. Hetherington worked hard and produced a few classy touches, he looked stronger physically than earlier in the season. Fitzpatrick didn’t play but managed a few minutes for the first team. It’ll be interesting to see what team we put out against Workington in the Cumberland Cup. The loan players can’t play for Workington (cup tied) but I think they might play for us which should add a bit of spice to the game.

Wasn't the story of our blown promotion him asking to move to Rangers and Big Keith (not the honda driver) chinning him in the dressing room and then we collapsed after.
